Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales (7/12 - 7/18)

so.... unexpected....

EDIT: anyone saw Lepton preorder chart before the two games were released?

EDIT2: Even more bad news for the DQ game. From Adriasang -

"In truth, the perma death change may not be the cause of the game's initial success. Famitsu states that the game had basically the same start as Shadow Dragon. This could be just Fire Emblem selling as well as it always does."

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Also, Momotaru PSP's a bit of a bomb looking at this (likely 25k or less).  PSP really seems like an unfriendly platform for mainstream casual or family titles, it's pretty much 'core only' in terms of audience.  DS/PSP reminds me a bit of the dynamic between SFC/PCE or PS1/Saturn, the latter being strong seconds, but much more limited in terms of wider audience.  Only real difference is probably that PCE and SS had incredibly strong 1st party sales, and nothing really as big as MoHun.

@jarrod

I'm afraid your second scenario is starting to be the more likely :(

It could be something like this:

01. [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow (Nintendo) - 160,000
02. [WII] Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory (Square Enix) - 140,000

Much more likey than:

01. [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow (Nintendo) - 220,000
02. [WII] Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory (Square Enix) - 210,000

Anyway it seems Last Ranker did it above expectations unless Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2010 had bombed hard and Inazuma Eleven 3 had had a terrible drop (-70%) which is extremely unlikely. At this point I have it at 60k - 70k.

Ugh, fuck.  Wii is so dead in Japan.  Time for Wii HiFi asap.

Seriously, DQMBRV should've been an easy 500k plus seller, with these sales it'll be doing around half that.  Total bomb imo, it's first shipment was 300k and given then, I doubt it even gets a second.

I'll hold out some hope it did better though, Fire Emblem 3 is the most popular game in the entire series (the SFC original sold 750k ltd).  Maybe it did somewhat better than Shadow Dragon's debut (140k)?

I also wouldn't rule out a steeper IE3 drop, the game was WAY more frontloaded than IE2, and the World Cup fever may have driven some of that earlier adoption.  Power Pro 2010 PSP would be a gigantic drop though, but then all the previous PSP entries were exclusives (while 2010 is competing with a PS3 version, something that also didn't quite work out in PSP's favor with Winning Eleven Blue Samurai).  We'll see though...

Jarrod chill. Wait for the numbers and judge. Their might be a few surprises in the end.

I guess that's why new Tantic Ogre is going on PSP. :(

If DQM:BRV sold that badly, then I will be very afraid to see Sengoku Basara 3 numbers.

Well, that's a somewhat odd choice imo, as the retro gamers seem pretty well established on DS moreso and from what we've seen of the game, it could be easily done on DS.  I kinda think they went with PSP because the game's already available on Virtual Console in Japan, though really they could've just done a PS Archives release.  It's getting a speedy localization too, which is weird since PSP games in the west are almost toxic at retail these days... DS would've been smarter from all angles really. :/

Oh and DQ kinda bomba. ;_;
