Forums - Sales - Wii sales to slump

Griffin said:

I live in Canada and it seems that the wii is impossible to find, i have looked high and low for over two weeks now for one and can't find a single wii anywhere. Will this lead to the wii being destroyed in sales this christmas by the 360/PS3. There is less then 4weeks until christmas and i don't think consumers will be holding out forever to find a wii and they will buy a 360/PS3.

Do you guys think that the wii will suffer for just the short term or the long term due to no wii's being available, MS and Sony are really going to cash out this christmas because Nintendo can not meet demand.

I'm sure this was also said last year.

Good job for Sony and Microsoft there is a shortage or it might really look like they are getting their butts kicked by the Wii!!

I would like to thank most of you who posted normal stuff in this thread, unlike shams and his wii troll bandwagon friends who troll all the threads. Come christmas time there is going to be a console under little billys tree, and if his parents can't find a wii its going to be a 360/PS3.

This is not a normal part of the year when you just buy a console and one game, this is christmas and you buy lots of wii games and wii-motes and all that wii stuff. Now parents will be spending $1000 on 360/PS3 stuff instead of wii mercandise.

I don't see why Nintendo could not bump up production even higher, they have loads of cash coming in, and have only increased production 300k over the past 8months.

Congrats Griffin - you just earned yourself a 24hr ban. Maybe you should look up the definition of "trolling", and have a look at my post again.

Its not my fault YOU are trolling with a completely incorrect (inappropriate?) thread title.

(example: thread about 'Wii outsells PS3 in Japan' --> "PS3 loses generation, Sony should close tomorrow")

You might also want to do some research (or reading around) on production, and why its impossible to click your fingers - and produce double what is physically possible.

Wii is gonna do to the console market what the Ipod did to the MP3 market, sure they'll be competitors and they'll both have an impressive product and make a decent living from the market, however there will be one industry standard that will become a household accessory as the Ipod became a fashion accessory and that will be the Wii.

They will outsell everyone this xmas and supply wont outstrip demand until they hit at least 30m sold I reckon

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

The only thing I see happening is the Wii hitting a limit that it cannot pass. Right now you can not pick up a Wii at Bestbuy.com, Cuircutcity.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, Sears.com, EB/gamestop.com, and many more. This means people have to either buy it from someone selling one they picked up at the store for outrages prices, or they have to try to find one at the store. in the south puget sound they are nowhere. My mother has been try to get one (against my advice) and she has called throught the phonebook to try and find one and they are not in the Peirce County. If this is wide spread we could have a PS2 2004 scenario were the PS3/360 beat the Wii due to console Shortages. If you don't remember that was the year the PSTwo came out, Sony dried up the PS2 stock and then ended up not being able to produce enoghf PSTwo's to meet demand which resulted in Xbox outselling the PS2.

It's not nice to ban people just because they have a difference of opinion. But I guess power corrupts. In any case while I agree that the thread title was worded somewhat misleadingly I don't think it warrants a ban of any kind. Just my 2 cents.

@Branko2166
it wasn't corrupt. he attacked shams and called him a troll.

in real world: what happens when you attack a police officer ?

A few parents that I work with have already given up looking for a Wii. They are giving their kids an "IOU" instead. Next time around, hopefully the kids will learn to ask for something popular BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Like last year, the supply issues just mean that the Wii will be selling well in months that are traditionally slow for consoles.  Of course, this hurts Nintendo a little as $250 today is worth more than $250 in April due to interest, inflation, possibility of price cut, etc.

 I agree.

Hmm ok so a console that has graphics on par with first generation xbox and that might be considered good for the years 2001-2002 is going to be "industry standard" for years to come? well god save us all is all I can say. Ever heard of HDMI, blue ray, HD-DVD? Forgive me for not being a Wii-fanboy, I really like playing that console with friends but there is nothing industry standard setting without the motion sensing technology it uses and the fact that it is attracting the casual crowd. But of course if the emphasis is to be only on party games and standing up swinging our arms then it sure is the most innovative product of all time.
