the 360 slim

certainly did well in U.S.

and the Others region

but....

the 360 slim was a total failure

in Japan

in fact, in the Japan preview for the upcoming week, the 360 hardware is expected to be at pre 360 slim levels already

that's pretty pathetic

in fact, I think the boost the 360 hardware had a few weeks ago was due to MH and not the 360 slim

the 360 slim did absolutely nothing for 360 hardware sales in Japan as sales are already back to normal levels

so no, the 360 slim launch globally was not as successful as the PS3 slim

of course,

the PS3 slim also had a big price drop as well, when it was released.....

Nothing will do anything for the Xbox 360 sales in Japan... Its not really a good enough reason to pass judgement on the effectiveness of the revision.

only in Japan... Ms has even sold more consoles than Nintendo did in the UK , for the first 7 months in the UK..

Microsoft's Xbox 360 'S' enjoyed a blistering UK launch over the weekend - even out-performing the release of Sony's PS3 Slim in 2009.

The hardware was released at retail on Friday - with a host of sellers discounting the SKU or offering it as part of a cash-saving bundle.

The 250GB console is smaller than the Xbox 360 Elite, and comes with WiFi capability under its hood. It also contains one fan compared to the previous model's two - something Microsoft guarantees will help kill off the Red Ring Of Death. It's also very shiny.

According to official UK industry data monitor GfK-ChartTrack, the XBox 360 S achieved the biggest ever launch in the UK for a "revised" home console - surpassing the launch sales of both PS2 Slim and PS3 Slim.

Over its first two days, the console sold around the same as the original Xbox 360's launch sales total back in week 48 of 2005.

GfK-ChartTrack has not released the sales figures, but we'll check in to see if there's any additional data available.

The firm reports: 'This is even more impressive when you take into account that the original Xbox 360 was launched across two versions, Pro and Core.'

don't forget, last year, before the PS3 slim came out in Japan, the PS3 was averaging about 8-10k hardware sales per week in Japan before the PS3 slim launch.  The PS3 slim has PERMANENTLY raised that to at least 17-22k per week.  The PS3 slim made a permanent change to PS3 hardware sales in Japan, while the 360 slim did nothing for long lasting hardware sales as the 360 hardware sales are already back down to normal levels this week.

so no, worldwide the 360 slim launch was not as successful as the PS3 slim

of course,

the PS3 slim also had a big price drop as well, when it was released.....

the price drop also helped the PS3 slim sell 150k hardware in Japan alone, the week it released, compared to only 17k for the 360 slim in Japan, when the 360 slim released there a few weeks ago

In my opinion the Xbox 360's sales in Japan aren't what's really pathetic. What's truely pathetic are Japanese gamer's apathy for a great console and stellar games. I mean look at how successful the 360 is everywhere else in the world. Everybody loves the Xbox 360 except Japan? How is that possible? It's like they are snubing it becuase it's not a Japanese company. Don't try to tell me that the Xbox 360 library only appeals to westerners becuase we buy tons of Japanese styles games. It's not that Xbox 360 doesn't appeal to the Japanese, it's that the Japanese seem to refuse to accept a foreign competitor. Fun games are fun no matter where you live and if they gave Halo a chance they'd probably love it as much as Final Fantasy.

I don't think there are enough games that appeal to the mainstream japanese gamers.. only people that seem to buy it are the hardcore otakus that like the old SHMUPS and those that like western games.. plus their XBL marketplace is seriously lacking stuff..  at least their inside xbox with famitsu xbox is entertaining

I would love if MS's japan team could get some game that can challenge nintendo's pokemon and make use of the 360 online capabilities and community and make it global

Well that clearly doesn't work the other way around in the West so I'm not sure why you'd expect it to be the case over there. Although the 360 does now have a wider library which also caters towards the Japanese market, when games like FFXIII, Yakuza and MGS and exclusive to the PS3 which HD console do you really expect them to buy?

The 360 had a Japanese library that was arguebly stronger than the PS3s for a long time, they still shunned the system. Hopefully they can go back up to 3-5k units weekly, its not great, but decent.

Whatever it is, HD is marching forward, and gamers like us are in for a treat, Japanese developers have all but abandoned the Wii.

at least at Japan xbox 360 slim have 4-6K sales per week, compare to 2K sales before.
