The new model of Xbox 360 caused a good deal of console sales in the month of June, but discounted old hardware sold more.

Microsoft’s redesigned box accounted for 40% of the 451,700 Xbox 360s it sold in June, said Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter in a note to investors on Friday.

But, he pointed out, nearly as many sales — 35% — were of the inexpensive Arcade model, which Microsoft reduced to a clearance price of $150. The retailer Wal-Mart offered a $50 gift card with each Arcade purchase, thus temporarily lowering the effective price of the hardware to a rock-bottom $100.

The balance of Xbox 360 console sales were made up of Pro and Elite units, which were also reduced in price by $50 as Microsoft clears them off shelves to make way for the $300 Slim box. So the price drop that spurred the majority of Xbox sales last month won’t last.

Microsoft has not announced a package for the redesigned Xbox 360 at the $200 price point.

I think you made a slight miscalculation there. We have it at about 90k. Maybe about 95k if you account for the 2 extra days (most people do their big ticket shopping on Saturday).

Even though he plucked these figures out of thin air, they wouldn't surprise me.

At the end of the day though, the S is out of stock, every single unit at a retailer is being sold, so it could be 10% or 90%, it doesn't show any trend other than buyers are buying the S and it's going out of stock.

We won't know until August NPD how the slim is doing when (hopefully) MS have stock levels in order.

Where is my logic incorrect? If it had sold about 90k by the 12th than sales from the 13th to the 16th would have been minimal. It would have had the dearth of it's sales on Friday and Saturday which were accounted for in that week's sales.

Ok seriously you are far to defensive. At what point did I say sales of the new model were poor? They're perfectly good. All I said was that you made a mathematical error and went into detail explaining why.

Leave it to Pachter to fail so hard with basic mathematics. How does one get paid so well for doing his job poorly? Is Wedbush Morgan hiring?
