UBI DRM on steam?

A PERMANENT INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES AND TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. SUCH CONTENT MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED ONE SINGLE TIME WITH A UNIQUE KEY. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://thesettlers.us.ubi.com/.

I thought steam has its own DRM and not use publisher's DRM?

Around the Network

Steam has it's own DRM, but publishers can still have their own DRM on top of that such as GFWL, this, Securom, ect.

I think it's pretty dumb. On Steam the game will be locked to your account and everything so even more excessive DRM on top of that seems very redundant especially when it interferes with playing the game.

Yes, Ubi's shitty anti-consumer drm is up since AC2 in november 2009. So is the Settlers 7. Now, their forums are filled with complaints of people who bought their game and found out they couldn't play the way they want.

The last game I bought from Ubi was the excellent Red Steel 2, but I won't buy Ubi's stuff anymore. I hope all the competent devs will find work at a consumer friendly developper/editor.

Just for your information, EA has recently sold out all their shares they had in Ubi :

(I love their explanation for the last year loss : It's because of the economic crisis ! this time it's not pircay :p)

Let them die slowly atari-style.
