Forums - Nintendo - Capcom joins Virtual Console Arcade

YESSSS!!!!!!!11!!1!

The Virtual Console Arcade part of Nintendo's Virtual Console download service has been mostly limited to Sega and Namco Bandai. Now Capcom is joining in on the retro fun.

The company announced today that it will be releasing titles for Virtual Console Arcade. It said that it plans on bringing popular titles from its catalogue to the service.

The first game to emerge from this initiative will be Sonson. This arcade side scroller, based off the Saiyuuki ("Journey to the West") classical novel, was released in 1984 as Capcom's second arcade title.

The Virtual Console version will be released some time this summer at 800 Wii Points.

Does this mean there is hope to see arcade classics like Warzard, the sequel to Saturday Night Slam Masters and the Alien vs Predators side scroller?

And here I thought there was already enough Street Fighter games on VC. Another dozen is now inevitable.

I'm not a hardcore gamer.  I'm not a casual gamer.  I'm a gamer.

I don't understand. Is the Virtual Console Arcade literally just arcade games that have been ported to the VC? Or is the term "arcade" being used in a different sense?

I never kenw they had arcade games on the VC, that's pretty cool. Then again, I haven't been on the VC in over a year and there's probably over 20 games I feel I need to buy. My wallet is trying its best to distract me from the VC.

The possibility of the arcade version of strider for the VC Arcade?

Hey, those that we got are the enferior console ports (they weren't bad, but they're missing alot of stuff), now we actually have a chance to get our greasy paws on a direct perfect arcade port, how it was meant to be.

And I'm bloody happy about that!

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Hell yes, now the VC Arcade will get another 4 releases per year!

I wouldn't mind some DarkStalkers, Cyberbots or Pocket Fighter.  Hell, maybe now that Capcom's cozy with Marvel, some of the earlier Vs games too.

I really doubt Capcom would do that. These guys have yet to release the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 for the VC. Nor have they tried to talk with Disney about releasing thier Disney licensend IPs to the VC.  Yet these guys can talk with Disney, who owns Marvel, about making/porting Marvel vs Capcom 2, 3 for the HD platforms and have released Released Resident Evil 1-3 on the PSN. It's clear where Capcom's heart is

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

I don't think 'heart' has all that much to do with it honestly, VCA is a Capcom Japan initiative and they don't really seem to care about XBLA/PSN anymore than they do Wiiware (so far they've only done MegaMan 9-10 on any of the services).  The DD platform they've been most active on is... well, Virtual Console.  And a lack of N64 RE2 probably has more to do with Nintendo than Capcom, given only one 3rd party N64 game is even on the service (Ogre Battle 64).

The one licensed Capcom arcade property I'd really love to see on VCA, but am pretty sure won't happen, is the D&D brawlers.
