I HATE perma-death. It was a total turn-off of Path Radiance.

I disagree. It adds a whole new layer of strategy and emotional attachment to the characters. At least for me anyways. At least now you can choose.

The problem is you don't even have time to get attached because they'll die soon and you actually don't even want to get attached because you know they'll die soon so for me it's flawed but yeah it's nice that we have the choice now.

Honestly, I hate this argument.  If you're unlucky enough to have your characters die when there's a 32% chance of them getting hit, I know your plight well but if you're not prepared to entry a chapter with a viable strategy of attack and you leave your archers and mages in the front of your legion and your knights and cavalier towards the back... you should be penalized.

I agree.  There have been some ridiculously unlucky situations (2 <5% crits in a row) where I've lost a character, but if you play smart it shouldn't be too much of an issue.  This game is a strategy game.  That means you can't charge into battle without thinking through it.

Edit: I'm the kind of person who resets upon a village being sacked, so I feel no pity for those upset over resetting a chapter for a character.

Ok, new guys can enjoy having the option but my masochistic ass will be playing Classic Mode.

That's not masochistic, that's just playing it correctly. Too few games impose a penalty on death; the only other one I remember off the top of my head is Rondo of Swords, but in that, they're just out for the next map.

I'll be playing in badass mortal mode.

I hope they throw in features that were in the console games. I really miss things like shove and canto when I don't have them. Also, shopping in the middle of a battle is annoying.

I'll probably play without.  I need to buy a new DS to finish Shadow Dragon.

I said this before but... Finally! I can play my first Fire Emblem game, start out with easier settings. The series hard difficulty and perma death always scared me. I didn't want to buy the games, get frustrated with it and end up not finishing it. I don't want my game purchases to be a waste of money!

I'm looking forward to this! ^_^

I say GOOD.

Why?  Because now they want try and dumb down the challenge because of new players.

New players can just turn off Permadeath.

I mean the otpion won't effect me so why should I care?

I dont like the idea, as I said in my other thread I respect FE for that very fact. Its ensures that ppl are actuall being startegic, theres  S in SRPG for reason. revives will only lessen the strategic tension and it will never teach you to be good if you dont have to worry about loosing anything

Good.

I'd play Classic myself, but more options is always nice.

I hope they implement similar options in the next full-blown, new Fire Emblem (coming to a 3DS near you, I'm sure).

Well, hopefully this will attract more newcomers to the series, but I don't see myself using it, ever. It kills the strategic spirit of the series, IMO, but that's just me, someone who's had quite a share of experience with FE.

That's the only problem i might have with it. It's not like a super-easy mode or anything, it really changes the strategic core of things. If you learn to play with deaths off, then you'll start doing things like have one character do a kamikaze run to draw off a whole horde of enemies. At least, that's what i would do...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
