For lag I'm trusting no-one but actual analysis by a proper site. People's perception of lag tends to be all over the place - some feel it's there when it isn't and some don't notice it when it is. In short, people's general impressions mean little next to actual recording measurements of lag, and that's why you can search and easily find someone saying I didn't notice any and others say they did.
But I'll take this as a promising opinion based on nothing but individual perception.
For me the key message coming out is that Kinect is fun, it is interesting, but the lineup is looking a little weak and there is the suspicion that, at least at this early stage, MS have less idea what to actually do with the tech than Nintendo did with the Wii (which shouldn't be a shocker really).
The title that most interested me around Kinect was Milo & Kate, but judging by more recent marketing MS is going to go all out after proven approaches from Nintendo and it may be a while before we see someone really try to do something original with Kinect.

One of the things that seems to be a recurring theme with Kinect is that there seems to be what I would call "Situational difficulties" ... What I mean by that is that some people seem to have difficulties with it because they’re too close, too far, wearing the wrong clothes, or countless other little problems.
The impressions I am waiting for is from average individuals who are playing it in their homes where it will be set up in a less than ideal environment, with less than ideal lighting, and we can really find out whether these are problems are rare, will be fixed by the time it is released, or are quite possibly going to be widespread.

Also, i know many people who were skepticle of the wii, but the multiple kiosks set up in public places like malls shifted public opinion, at leats in my area. There were huge lines and people could try it.
Kinect doesnt need to work perfectly to be huge. It just cant be frustrating.
To Kowenicki, you say you dont trust the review from th emall, but thats the kind of setting Kinects going to need to work well in to come across as worth it, not a closed door, studio with optimal settings because thats not realistic.
No one has been able to review the functionality of kinect to try it with a coffee table, someone sitting behind you on the couch, a dog walking in front, how much space in a realistic comparable living room, all article of clothing......theres just not enough info to make a second hand review of the facts so ill reserve mine.
That said, ive seen enough presentations from both E3's, and bottom line is im not impressed. This is largely due to the titles, but also my fear of the aforementioned and lack of info/demos in realistic settings combined with the utter failure of kinectimals hand recognition.
But in the end, im a guy who loves new tech and videogames, i so want to be proven wrong on my initial impression.
