Forums - Nintendo - Did you play Eternal Darkness? Why or why not.

Yeah the game is really good at catching you off gaurd. I've seen more people jump or gnerally get freaked out playing that game than all other horror games combined.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I don't think you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I didn't know much about the game when i bought it. I had couple of times read the text on the box, and thinking of buying it. Finally i decided to buy it when i got it cheap from internet auction.
All i knew before, was that it's somekind of survival horror game, so i expected it to be more like RE games, but it definately wasn't. It's atmosphere is amazing, and the Roivas mansion is the most scariest place in videogames world. The game is so damn psychological, you just wait knowing something bad will happen any moment. The sanity effects got me (too) many times and damn they were cool. And the things taken from real life, just made the atmosphere more intense.
ED is the only game so far that have got me scared, and i was 24 or 25 when i bought the game, so not a kid anymore who gets easilly scared.

I don't complain about the controls, they definately made different characters really feel different. And the plot... That really was great. Everytime you cleared a chapter, you just had the feeling, that "this isn't right".

Definately one of the best games last gen. Or one of best games ever.

If they rush an Eternal Darkness sequel I'll run to the Silicon Knights HQ, burst through the door, make the rats eat their eyes, scream and burn their bodies.

Great atmosphere. Great use of sound.

Scariest moments include

*SPOILERS*

Healing yourself...POP!

Saving the game - That pissed me off. Then I hear "this can't be happening!"

The "end of demo" screen - lol

*END SPOILERS*

This is one of those atmosphere games. Combat is kinda clunky, but the spell system is pretty flexible.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Yes I did, because it's awesome!!! One of the greatest games last gen IMO. The story is excellent, once you've finished it 100% you'll think, wow. All the hints and just, omg, yea brilliant.

Top notch atmosphere, use of sound, terrific voice acting. My only gripe about it is that there is no sequel!!

 QFT.

I hate playing through games multiple times but I played through this one 5-6 times.

Awesome, awesome game. It did a great job messing with your head.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

No, didn't play it! Wasn't able to pick it up because it didn't sell well and wasn't available at my local gameshops!

I know how great the game is and i've been planning on purchasing the game via Ebay though!

Or i'll just order it ... Wasn't motivated at first but it's actually a game that HAS TO belong in my GC collection. (Note to myself: Might get MGS2: The twin snakes as well then) Cuzz then my Gamecube collection is worthy of being called, GOOD! (Classics like Beyond good and evil and Timesplitters 2, Tales of symphonia, Resident evil 4 and Second sight are in it already)

Dennis Dyack said he  wanted to do something on the Wii- so I am hoping wishing and praying.

Dennis Dyack is the head of Silicon Knights.

Damn, i wish i had a link for you but Silicon Knights or Nintendo (dunno, don't recall correctly) pattented somekind of name with Eternal and Eternity in it:

Possibilities:

Eternal Eternitty

Etternity Darkness etc...

Nintendo'd be stupid not to get this one exclusive cuzz Silicon and Ninty are close and ED is important for the Wii's 08-09 line-up!

I played through this entire game three times so that I could see the true ending. I don't think that I've done that with any other game of reasonable length since pre-2000. That speaks volumes, I think.

One of the best uses of Pro Logic II support on the Gamecube, for sure.

@Starcraft maniac: Nintendo also patented the sanity meter, if i recall. Btw, guess who produced the game?

Amazing game, and the Sanity Meter... ingenious.

I was just reading and remembering all of the sanity effects... there were some really great ones. It certainly threw me for a loop when my character shot themself in the head while reloading a weapon...
