Forums - General - Is Lady GaGa one of the most musical artistic people ever?

She'll be forgotten in a few years.

Seriously doubt it. She has already developed a huge fanbase just like Britney and Madonna have. She isn't going anywhere.

But not as big as the Backstreet Boys and N-Sync had in their prime, not even close.

See what I did there?

Now, I don't understand what you are saying, is "musical artistic" like pepole who make music that could be considered art? Music like Mozart, Bethoven, and probably around 20 tracks in the entire last century? No.

Are you talking about it in the sense of a musician with an artistic tendency?
No, try and search in youtube for November Rain, Estranged and... well, these are the only music videos coming into my mind which seem to have meaning in their video, there are probably others but I don't care.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Lady Gaga is made out of the the same stuff we laugh about when we watch 80's music videos

you'll understand in about 20 years

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I like lady gaga, but I think its to early to tell

She's not really doing anything different from Fergie or Gwen Stefani.

Not by a long shot. I mean even from our generation you have the likes of Dave Grohl and Thom Yorke (latter not my kind of thing, but talented none-the-less) lady gaga just pales by comparison.

Go back to the past 40 years and you have artists such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Pink floyd, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, etc. who are probably all legitimately more musically artistic than lady gaga.

Go back even further and you have the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, etc...

And going centuries back you will have to compete with the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Tchaicovsky and so on.

I don't see Lady Gaga, featuring any where near any of those on recognised talent and musical artistry. She's just popular that's all.

Also, it's not uncommon for an artist to write their own songs. In fact I don't think I would consider a music artist serious if they never wrote any of their own songs. It would be like a painter using a colour by numbers book and calling themselves a serious painter, it just doesn't work.

That said though, she is giving it a good go and I can see her sticking around like Madonna. The longevity is certainly there.

Lady Gaga is a cheap Madonna clone.

I beliver she has more vocal talent than Madonna. Gaga is a more fun version as well.

When a musical artist relies more on theatrics than their music that should raise a giant red flag...

She doesn't. She's just a polarizing artist.

That's odd because almost every thing I hear about Lady Gaga is her costumes and shows, I rarely hear about her music.  Of course this is just an outsider looking in since the few songs of hers I've listened to I thought were nothing special, they were more about the theatrics.

Perhaps I just listened to the wrong ones but I really doubt it.

Her music is really brilliant. What songs have you heard from her?

The lyrics in Telephone are absolute garbage. It's the video that everyone remembers.

i'm obsessed with lady gaga.  her music is just too awesome (and no, not her theatrics.  i don't pay attention to any of that).  she's amazing and i'm sure she'll be around for quite a long time.

after two albums she already has seven number 1 hits singles and six grammy nominations.  thats more than most artists have in a career.

i hear she's in the studio again for her third album; day 1 for sure for me.

Being a good artist isn't about number one hits. People like Led Zeppelin and The Who are considered some of the greatest music artists of the 20th century, and yet they have never had number one hit singles.

WOW! That's  more number one hits than Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Yes, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, Metallica and Dream Theater, COMBINED!

WOW!
