Forums - Sony - If the PS3 was delayed...

"Now with the PS3 delayed, some of the big games would be there at launch such as KZ2, MGS4, GT5 and many others that would make that $600 price definately worth it."

I don't know the first year normally sucks because really great titles need more time to develop and publisher do not like to release games for consoles that nobody owns. I mean it worked for Resistance and Motorstorm but I don't think that Konami would have released a title like MGS4 for a console that has essentially an installed userbase of 0.
It sounds good but nobody does it that way. The first-year games of 360/DS/PSP/PS2/PS3/WII they all sucked. The only really good title for the Wii was Zelda and that was essentially a Gamecube game. In the end you just have to first release the console and then wait for good games.

But the Console would sell a ton better and when they make sequals they will be on a system with a huge install base. BTW What do you mean when you say first year cause last I checked SMG was the Wii's best game.

Bet with OriGin: Within 1 year Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ahead of Mario Kart Wii (when aligning the one whole year from each region). 2 week ban from Vgchartz for the loser. Edit: Darn! Looks like OriGin will win.

Yeah, through out the entire year, they could have just kept putting up fake CGI footage of true "next gen" games making people believe it was light years ahead of the 360, in essence stopping all 360 sales. Instead people were able to compare multiplatform games in which they were virtually identical or even worse. Look at how the PS2 soared past the Dreamcast within a few months of its launch.

ps2 soared past dreamcast becuase the ps1 was really popular and the perople were ready to upgrade and they could still play their ps1 games on the ps2, and sega stopped the life cycle of saturn short and quickly relased the dreamcast so people were scared that if they bought a console that they would have a new 1 released shortly after

This would perhaps work for first-party titles. But "independent" studios like Konami normally don't make 50 mio$ games just to help a console sell more units. Aside from that I doubt that the PS3 would have sold more in 2008 then it will now sell in 2007+2008. Since titles like MGS4 take longer to develop than Motorstorm/Genji/whatever and you need to ship dev-kits with finalized hardware to developers anyway, the earlier you can get the console under people the better.

And? The Wii was available in November 2006 and SMG was available in November 2007. I take my personal freedom and make it a second-year title.

Metal Gear and Final Fantasy would never be launch titles because Konami and Square-Enix wouldn't start development until 12 months before the system was launched (targeting a second year release to ensure an established userbase).

Holding off a year would have given the PS3 the benefit of a more powerful CPU/GPU (due to the 65nm process), less expensive hardware, and a more established movie format (probably HD-DVD) ...

@happy squirrel

I hope that was sarcasm.

I assume you're refering to the HD-DVD comment?

No, it wasn't sarcasm ... if it wasn't for the PS3 Blu-Ray would be DOA.

I guess you have a point.

BTW Wii firsts year=nov. 19, 2006-nov. 19, 2007. Last I checked a year is 12 months not 2.

HD DVD would had raped blu ray.

"Why isn't samus in a mario kart game?"

If it was delayed I wouldn't have gotten the enjoyment and HD gaming I have gotten out of it since April.

I'm not joking, there was no way I was gonna get a 360 (nothing against the 360, I just don't like it that much for various reasons) and I've been able to enjoy Motorstorm, Resistance, VF5, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and all the numerous downloads like Blast Factor, Gripshift, Calling all Cars, Super Stardust HD, GT HD and others on my (at the time) new HDTV.

Not to mention all the multimedia capabilities (blu ray being one) and the fact that my 60 GB version plays PS1 and 2 games, so I had all those games to play too.

I'm glad they released it when they did.

If anything it should have come out earlier. If they had gotten it out in 2005 (which doesn't seem like it would have been possible, at least from what I read which hinted at technical issues), and if they had kept their PS2 games coming out, I think it would've gone much better for them. Since every PS3 would've had BC, the PS2 releases would appeal to current PS2 owners and new PS3 owners, plus, everybody wouldn't have been as disappointed that the PS3 isn't the worlds above the 360 that people were promised it would be.
