Forums - PC - Getting out of my pre-order

I've got myself into an interesting situation, I pre-ordered StarCraft II from Gamestop to get a beta key in May. The credit card I used to do so expired in June. Now, I have received an email from Gamestop asking me to update my credit card information so the "game is delivered to me as quickly as possible".

Now, if I do update my information the shipment will proceed which means I'll receive the game 2-3 days after release which sucks (which is why I never pre-order usually). I'm thinking about not updating my credit card info so I can purchase the game on release day and not wait for a stupid delivery.

Can this plan backfire and I'll be stuck paying twice for StarCraft II? Or is there another way to cancel my pre-order?

does the new credit card have new numbers?  if so there is no way for gamestop to charge you for the game.  worst case senario they can't charge you and send you the game anyways, although the legality of it is a big shady.

i tried to cancel freecreditreport.com's BS service but couldn't get them to do it so i eventually just reported the card as lost and got a new account number.  that was the end of that for me.  or maybe not...never checked my credit report since so maybe i'm fucked and just don't know it. xD

If the CC number has changed there is no way for them to charge it to the new card. Of course TECHNICALLY they could go after you via legal means (broken contract), but considering they didn't send you the product, and it is only a game costing like $50 I don't think there is a chance in hell they would bother. It's also gonan be a hot seller, they won't get stuck with it collecting dust. I would monitor your credit rating thoug, just in case. And for God's sake don't use freecreditreport.com! annualcreditreport.com is the federally mandated by LAW yearly credit check. It's actually free, not a scam, a mandated by Congress to be available to you once a year. Anything else is likely a scam. Especially if you see it on TV.

My credit card number hasn't changed just the expiration date and the security code. I think I'll update my information to stay on the safe side, this means I'll get my copy a couple days late but what's a couple of days after 10 plus years of waiting!

Gamestop only charges you on date of release. So just cancel your -preorder and re-order it again with the new CC #s. Or just go in-store and pre-order.

That's not how it works for SC2 though. He can't cancel it.
