Did anyone actually play this game?
I bought a copy long before I bought a PSP in case it went out of print, and was slightly amused to find a cardboard box-like fold out with a couple of embedded plastic lenses labeled "Solid Eye."
So I finally played the game and after going through the tutorial and the first mission, the game unlocks 3D scenes which consist of cutscenes from MGS3 Snake Eater as well as a bunch of "fluff" video clips featuring live models in MGS style character shot in 3D.
Despite the clunky cardboard box thing that slips over the PSP, I have to say the 3D effect totally works and doesn't suffer the "layered" effect present in content that is converted into 3D after being shot with a normal camera. The only drawback is the reduced resolution since the PSP screen is effectively "halved" as the effect is created on the 2D display by rendering L&R frames simultaneously that the player perceives as left and right eye perspectives. It's a really convincing effect.
It dawned on me that the MGS3D demo from Konami for the Nintendo 3DS most likely used the same data to recreate the 3D effect only without the cheap plastic lenses and cardboard box.
Acid 2 was released way back in 2006, which just goes to show how long Kojima Productions has been working on 3D content.
Can't wait to replay MGS3 on the 3DS if the whole game looks like this.
