Forums - Sony - Jack Trenton:puts failure of PS3 on early shortages and long unavailability

Everything about this thread is pathetic and sad.

Wait I think I got that wrong.

I love the inaccuracy in the title. Mentioning disappointment is not blaming the PS3 failure on it, just mentioning a missed opportunity.

eugene, you are fast becoming one sad pathetic user.

I'll give you that the title is misleading, but this is still a really funny statement. I am almost certain every reasonable member of this forum can admit that Sony has made worse mistakes than the christmas shortages. Yes they could have sold more, but that is not what has cost them the most sales. I think we can see that it was the pricetag at this point. The $400 model is doing very well despite what many (myself included) thought would happen due to its limitations. If they had launched at that price I honestly think they would be a lot better off. If they had a full supply chain that christmas they would probably have a few hundred thousand more tops.

Eugene is a pretty big troll, but no worse than Leo-j, Soriku, or Johnlucas (at times).

Heavy Spin on the title there. He isn't saying the PS3 failed -- he's just pointing out something disappointing about it.

I'd totally agree that's HIS PR spin, but I don't think we need to counter his PR spin with our own, do we?

I responded like that because there were 2 ways to make this thread

"Jack Tretton comments on the PS3's 1st year on the market" This is what the title should have said if eugene wasn't intending to troll.

He shows his agenda to troll the PS3 more and more with every post he makes.

Don't come in here talking sense, love boy. Take it elsewhere!

The PS3's shortages were (mostly) ended by Christmas 2006 and the PS3 was readily available by mid January 2007; at worst for Sony there were a couple hundred thousand sales lost because of shortages.

The real problem has been that the PS3 is an expensive system with very little exclusive content that can justify the price tag. Sony should have known that they needed an amazingly high quality launch line-up, with a steady flow of high quality games in order to encourage gamers to spend the unusual price for their system.

No, that is only how a PS3 fanboy/troll, like yourself, would make the title.  Then again, you would never post a thread like this, because it reflects poorly on your beloved console/company.  No one takes it seriously when a fanboy/troll as yourself, tries to point the finger at someone else for trolling, especially considering that most everything you say is of little relevance to the threads you post in.

Theres multiple reasons why I think this is true.

If the PS3 had been able to fill more demand, then it would have started off with a nice base of 1.5-2million in the first few months. That would have kept a great deal of those exclusive that Xbox took, including BioShock. Also, this would have stopped the Xbox from taking so many sales

I know last winter when I couldn't get a PS3, I went out and got an Xbox. The was cheaper, it had Gears of War coming out, and it was readily available.

And while the Xbox did have shortages as well, it didnt have competition to take away sales. Thats the big difference. You can see proof of this as even this year the Xbox will have trouble matching last years holiday sales.

The title definately is misleading, but still Trenton managed to make himself look like a fool (sad and pathetic?). Yes, Sony definately lost some sales with the launch supply constrain, but they lost even more with high pricetag.
Anyway, if the launch was biggest dissappointment, Trenton obviously didn't expect much from PS3 sales overall.

But there was one good thing in PS3 launch, and that was that all the leeches buying dozen PS3:s per guy and tried to make profit by selling them at ebay, lost their money. And that's good.
