Forums - Gaming - Possible 3DS killer up Sony's sleve??

Once again, just to be clear... Some people tend to overestimate Sony's 1st party offerings as a competitive factor against Nintendo. Granted, it doesn't mean that there're no other factors that could be used in favour of next Sony's handheld and against Nintendo to carve a niche for it, make it greatly successful device or even "win" the next gen. In the end Sony could even pump up software production in the way Nintendo did (in five years they multiplied the revenue coming from sales of self-published and self-developed games by a few times) if they get all things right to make self-published games more relevant on grand scheme, though it's highly unlikely.

Im sure Sony would make an excellent third party developer on the 3DS. If their software is as good as people say it is then they could attain excellent sales for their titles especially as people have claimed, they are as good with 3D as they say they are.

A PSP2 going up against 3DS would be like the Dreamcast without Sega games (And nothing of importance to replace them) going up against the PS2 AFTER the PS2 has already released AND had Nintendo games. That is what they would be up against. When it comes to handhelds, Sony is screwed, now they have to pray that Nintendo doesn't do a similar move in the home console market.

Now that Nintendo has gotten the third parties back, they are unstoppable when facing companies like MS and Sony who almost only rely on third party games to drive hardware.

The only thing that could ever be able to combat this restored Nintendo would be a revitalized Sega (Or Capcom or some other strong true game company deciding to make a console) And, Sega is unfortunately in pretty bad shape.

Sometimes it seems like some people (including you) totally forget about Sony's own games (1st party). Those who want to tell me that Sony games are (objectively seen) not on par with Nintendo's or MS's have obviously never played them or... well... you know.

Especially Sony hasn't really relied on third party games this gen. The only third party games that drove PS3s were MGS4 (worldwide) and Yakuza 3 and 4 (only in japan). People mainly buying PS3s because of Sony's first (and second) party games, and not because of third party ones. And Nintendo isn't unstoppable, next gen could look totally different. When you look back you'll see what happend to Nintendo after the SNES und you'll see what happened to Sony after the PS2.

Last bolded part: I lol'd.

Last time I checked FF13 is a third party PS3 game that drove sales in Japan (or even worldwide).

8 of 10 top selling PS3 games in Japan are third pary games including top 4. 8 out of 10 top selling PS3 games worldwide are third party games including top 6. It certainly doesn't look like people buy PS3 mainly for first party or second party game.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

and comparing sony first party (and lets say 2nd) to Nintendo's first (and also 2nd) you can throw opinions any which way you want over which is more QUALITY, but that isn't what will win a console war.

Someone posted top selling sony game was 3.5 million and nintendo had 17 over that mark on the ds.  those 17 games like it or not pushed console buying.  doesn't matter if you think that 1 game is better than those 17, the end result is DS selling way more than the PSP.

So in a discussion about a 3DS killer, ONLY SALES MATTER.  So only bring up games that sell a lot and move consoles.  Bringing up some critically aclaimed game that didn't sell much is not a KILLER game.

Yep, I was wrong about that. I already know it

Pokemon is believe to kill anything in sales soooo fast. So as long as Nintendo has it's 1st party titles, there will be no one getting killed.

Sony should buy Digimon and try to revive its popularity.

I'd lol about people says sony could come easily with a 3D glassless screen that had multi touch capacity... Because, first sony try to bash the 3DS saying that the 3D glassless screen they prototype on their  laboratories don't have good quality (so by extend they wanted to say the one on 3DS should be the same) and second, Nintendo try 3D touch screen but haven't implement it because the fact to put your hand on the 3D screen make the 3D perception on the screen disappear.

For the PSP2  has multimedia machine, it will be more harsh because they will now to fight against the ipod touch, iphone and ipad that got all the multimedia features, the hype plus some small games that are designed to be played on the go.

Last for the power, every other company on the hand-held market try to compete with Nintendo with the power (Atari, Sega, sony) each time they get beat because this have a big downhill, the battery autonomy. Every Nintendo hand-held has battery life of 10 hours or more. That's important for a device that you will likely play everywhere and on the go, not close to a plug (as my Game Gear :p).

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

OMG!

It would be the "metooest" thing they could do, I can't think about anything "metooer"

Did anybody actually watch them? I remember years ago Italian state TV broadcasted them in a lame attempt to compete with Mediaset that had Pokemon...

Digimon was meant to be the alternative and compete directly against Pokemon.

But, apparently, they lose the momentum before they could even catch up and disappear.

IMO, they just lack the right people to lead.
