Forums - Website Topics - Should database management be redone?

So as we all know many users contribute to adding games to the database or editing them, which is good in theory, but it's become obvious there is no uniform to the function and many people do it on their own accord. Things like project gotham 4 shouldn't exist where the official title is project gotham racing 4, but someone decided to do it anyways. I have no really concrete ideas as I realise it has to be difficult to do, but some ideas were to force people to agree to source only one site for names (maybe xbox.com or nintendo.com) and then make sure you check for the names from those sites before adding a game to the database. It would probably save ioi a lot of work if he doesn't have to constantly fix games.

Does anyone have any really good ways to handle it though? Maybe get a select 5 people to handle a console or something.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

Mods cant know everything though, I really think there should be thought put into how the database is managed. For creating the intial database I can see how hard it would be for only a few people to do it, but to my understanding users submit duplicated data often.

Well, goldenpp72, if mods already have to approve any games, then maybe ioi could talk to them about focusing more on not approving duplicates. And then he could ban any mod for a week that accepts a duplicate game.

Heh. Of course, then we'd have people trying to slip duplicates past mods, just to get them banned.

Which is why we normally check to see what is already in the database before we approve a game. Sure there are still duplicates and mistakes, it's going to happen no matter how we do the database.

That said, there are some games which are duplicates because each contains sales data. Normally one game will have NA and others data while the second will have Japanese. Now we mods can't edit sales data so we're not sure how to go about this.

Hey ioi, can you fix a problem like that if we let you know? For instance, Super Monkey Ball: Banana blitz has two pages with different aspects of sales data. Can you merge that?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Weren't you supposed to be banned for all eternity Golden?
