I have a feeling Nintendo will go all out for its next console. It'll be similar to the 3DS, with multiple new features. It will have HD, 3D, and maybe something else new that acts as the "hook" that differenciates itself from the competiton. I think Nintendo has learned from the N64/Gamecube days where they only had incremental upgrades. By the time they release it, 2013 or 2014, 3D will be cheaper and more mass market.

its not a big thing for it to have 3D when having HD power.

going all out is not when 360 and PS3 can already do it.PS3 can do 1080p HD.

Notice the bold. It'll will have HD and 3D functionality, but ALSO something unique from the PS3, 360, and the next consoles from Sony and MS that will differenciate itself, like Wii had motion controls. What that unique feature will be I have no idea, but then again I don't work for Nintendo. Could be anything from digital game downloads for full retail games, to a projector that allows you to play games anywhere. But it will be something new and different. for a video game console.

digital game downloads for full games isn't unique, have you gone bonkers?

projector isn't unique as it is just combining a projector and gaming which can already be done

something new and different, that doesn't always happen.

It is unique for new games on the console.. Exactly how many full retail PS3, 360, or Wii games have you downloaded from your console? You can download things like Xbox games for Xbox 360, but you can't download 360 games.. What I am talking about is NEW retail games made specifically for THAT console..

Also, not sure what gaming console you've played, but a projector built it a gaming console would be unique..

Nintendo can rely single-handedly on their strong first party titles. No matter what the next Wii looks like or how many weird-shaped attachments are sold separately, they'll still sell obscene amounts of it.

I guess having abysmal processing capabilities just doesn't mean anything to people, as long as the franchises are there (and a bone tossed towards the casual players) 3D or HD doesn't matter. I don't like the projector idea, a lot of homes don't have the space necessary (just like how Kinect seems to pose a problem for japanese households).

not many but its not a great feature

you can for 360 but not at release

so you want exclusives and no other games being downloadable,-even worse

Also, not sure what gaming console you've played, but a projector built it a gaming console would be unique..

unique doesn't mean it will be better as it wouldn't do anything for gaming, you have gone bonkers

why not just build a tv with inbuilt gaming system by your way............................lol

they will sell but not surely obscene amounts, they don't with N64 and GC

I guess having abysmal processing capabilities just doesn't mean anything to people,as long as the franchises are there (and a bone tossed towards the casual players)

yeah thats why N64 and GC bombed, right?

3D or HD doesn't matter.

it will matter

more of it doen't do anything for gaming

If they judge as per penetration rate of 3D TV  as they did for the HD this gen, the answer will be no.

But as they already had some 3D device (virtual boy, Gamecube and soon 3DS), i think it's possible the next Nintendo home console will be able to output stereoscopic 3D. I am just curious about what Nintendo will add on top of the full HD and 3D enable.

And again for the one thinking the Nintendo consoles are weak. The N64 was more powerful than the PS1 and Gamecube is also more powerful than the PS2, it's the ONLY gen that sony console is the more powerful... And actually the more powerful console never finish the best selling console of its generation.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

I think Nintendo would go to HD before 3D, they said since the Wii launched that they werent enough HD tv's in the wild and their are even less 3D tv's

Given that multiplats will probably be supporting 3D by then, and assuming the Wii HD will be similar in power (or even stronger) than the ps3/360, it would be silly not to include it from the getgo.

Even if they didn't include it at launch, they could easily enable it via a firmware update ala ps3.

The problem of doing it by firmware update is the capacity of the console generating 3D graphics: like PS3, they are downgraded when doing the double images. If 3D is to be implemented in their next console, it should be planned since from beginning to include it.

I think that firmware or no firmware, graphics will always be hurt to some extent when doing 3D.  Perhaps they could optimize the system in some way to make the difference less dramatic but still there will be some downgrade.

As to the people that think that Ninty is going all out, I can't agree.  Don't get me wrong, there will be a significant improvement and definitely a couple of surprises.  But judging by the 3DS, I don't see them going all out.  The 3DS seems to be clearly superior to the DS, but it does not look like a graphics leap from psp. I expect cool features and interesting new concepts.

I think the next Wii (or whatever they call it) will be HD and at LEAST on par with PS3 AND 360. 3D.... not sure, let's see how tv sales go.

no 3D wouldn't always hurt.it depends on the systems power.GT5 is doing it.Killzone 3 is promising to do it

if its as powerful as PS3 then it will be capable of doing 1080p 3D as PS3 can do it

3D only requires sytems power,no additional thing except it should have the video port to do it.PS3 has HDMI 1.3 which can do it 1080p 3D and 2160p 2D.

but system is the main thing so that you are as powerful for both 2D and 3D to be equal

now that will be cool but won't happen as 3D isn't that advanced and you are not going to see it

not on big screen

it will first happen on handhelds,it would be cool if PSP2 did it.3DS will be shattered by that

Whatever man.. christ.. All I'm saying is it will do SOMETHING different from the competition, like the Wii did. Not sure what it might be, but that's why I don't work at Nintendo.

Do you just like to argue for the sake of arguing?
