Forums - Microsoft - Kinect preorders 'very low' - UK retailer

Why complain about pre-order numbers when you are still 5 months from launch? I'd say the time to get concerned is about 2 months from launch, maybe even 1 month. Low pre-orders this far out is a non-issue, what makes pre-orders special at this point is if they are doing unexpectedly well.

Shopto. Who the hell is Shopto.

I live in the UK and have never seen 1 shop, advert or anything.

People use GAME, HMV, or supermarkets. Not this Shopto.

LOL.

Hey Shopto is the ones saying £130 for Kinect.

GAME says £79.99 - £89.99.

I wonder who will be closer.

Shopto tey selling furniture instead.

Shopto is an online-only vendor, not a high-street chain...

pre-order's really don't mean anything. especially for an accessory. lol

The device doesn't launch for another 4 months and we don't know the final price. Of course preorders are low.

Especially an item that's intedned to appeal to a casual audience. For example, Wii games and accessories didn't get mega sales on day one. They maintained great legs.

People with half common sense wouldn't preorder a device without even a price yet.

People with full common sense would wait 6 months to a year before buying any consumer electronic device, gaming consoles included. Buying at launch date only opens up your wallet to shell more dollars out for a fix of a manufacturer defect that was not tested for because the execs were pushing it due to the pressure from the board of directors and shareholders to release a product because they had a quarterly bottom line to meet.

are you trying to say kinect was rushed??

anyway on topic I went into game and they already have orders for the move and lots of them, that was'nt advertised either, so any more excuses??

I waited a year to get a 360, 2 years to get the Wii and PS3 and later swapped for a PS3 Slim, sold my 360 at year 3-4 of it's life, and have always had a PC, so I would say it's not about Kinect being rushed or not, but a consumer choice when it comes to purchase dates, I have no reason to shell out money unless it truly justifies and I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that feel the same way as me.

Agreed and also like Killiana said helps save you troubles of defects from first generation equipment.   I got burned by PS1 first generation (overheating) way back in the day which caused me to never trust Sony again.  It is always best to wait till the true bugs/defects are realized by the early adapters.  Just look at all the people complaining about the iphone4...  There are numerous reasons why people should wait but people don't think most of the time.  They have to have the latest thing to make themselves feel cool even though the product hasn't been tested too much yet (real life situation tests).  With most electronics being made in China you can't expect the best quality especially with the first generation of the product.

Who are shopto? They are an excellent site that offer games far cheaper then either Game or HMV - even new releases are cheaper.  They also do next day free del. and send a text message to your phone for free when they have shipped the game.

I've ordered around 12 games from them over the last few years and I've been more then happy with the service and price - pre-oreders tend to come a day before the release date too.

I don't see why people wish to pay Game and HMV extra money simply as they are brick and mortar stores - I have a Game card but never use it now - if you don't buy from Shopto due at least buy games from Amazon.co.uk!

Why aren't people pre-ordering Kinect?

People who order from shopto are normally 1 - Informed Gamers 2- People looking for a bargain. It's also months away from release and consumers are waiting for more information before pledging money.  I doubt many people will pre-order before an official price is announced. Anything more then £100 is going to take some selling.

Ps. GAME is good for trying out games if they have a demo setup and just for browsing whats on offer - check it out, try it out then go home and order online.
