Forums - General - Just got back from The Last Airbender... NOOOOOOOOO

It's probably more like the cartoon than that last 3D Avatar movie.  I didn't get the connection at all.

Good thing I never saw the original cartoon. I will probably like this. Although I don't remember seeing anything action in a M. Night Shyamalan film, so maybe he can't do those. On the other hand I bet it's not your average AAA epic fantastic kung fu movie.

Don't really understand the hate on it.

For a adaption it's great.

And fyi...the show wasnt some epic either...it was fun but very very average at best.

Atleast this sticks with most of the stroy and feel...

some how this always happends were folks will say but Angy and crew wouldnt act like that or in the cartoon they did this...

What?! Not epic?! .... watch this and then tell me that the TV series isn't epic >_> .

Warning: few spoilers if you haven't watched book 1 and 2

XD Oh, and lol at Sokka at the end.

Sure it has epic moments but overall no...its fun...but thats it.

I rather enjoyed the film...

As for op post...no cread in it...Heck I could copy paste that and put it about every video game and folks would go but  why ''dont'' you like it...

As for the film no clue how well it will do...

with most reviewers going

''The chances of the series ever reaching four movies will depend on worldwide acceptance of a children's fantasy wherein kids save the (imagined) world while adults offer not much more than enthusiastic coaching or outright villainy."

''There is another problem that needs addressing early on. The Nickelodeon series, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzk, is wholly and inarguably centered on Asian (and Inuit) culture. But Shyamalan, a South Indian, for whatever reason -- you supply the motive -- chose to cast mostly white actors. Two fellow Indians, "Slumdog Millionaire's" Dev Patel and veteran Indian-American Aasif Mandvi, play different kinds of villains, but otherwise this fantasy world is pretty white''

Which is my fav..seeing how the source mat was....sooo they shoulda casted some eskimoes...a white asian kid...oh and a whole shat load of pissed off koreans.

''A TV series' transition to the big screen always makes for bumpy rides. The world of "Airbender" apparently once knew peace and balance among the nations of Fire, Air, Water and Earth because an avatar, who has mastered the ability to control or "bend" all four, once ruled. Then he "disappeared."

One hundred years later, the Fire nation rules through threats or outright violence. It falls to two young people, inexperienced waterbender Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone of "Twilight"), to chance upon a young boy named Aang (Noah Ringer). Guess what? He's the missing avatar, who like the Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of all past avatars.

Guess what else? The reason the avatar was missing for a century is that he "ran away from home."

yeah that was taken from rueters.......

oh and this

''As Aang and his two teen companions are pursued to the city of the Northern Water Tribe, the avatar never is in any real danger. Because as Mandvi's Commander Zhao mentions more than once, there is little point in killing Aang because he simply will "reincarnate again and the search will continue."

Another point is that Aang is raised in the Buddhist tradition, so he can harm no one. So for all the choreographed fights and CG action, this is the most bloodless PG movie one will ever see. If water crystals incapacitating warriors are your thing, than you'll love these ice sculptures.''

guess with folks thinking like that a anime based movie will never hold up....guessin realism=all.

Did anyone really think this is going to be any good judging from the trailers alone?

Thank god I didn't go see it.

Even if you didn't see the show, this is a poor movie at best. The plot is horirbly paced, there are plodding and clumsy scenes of 2 minutes of dialog straight while you do nothing but stare at closeups of a character's face, and even the fights, which should have been the one thing not screwed up, were dull and lifeless.  This is not, in any way, a competent film. It's just even worse for those who saw the award-winning cartoon because they know what could have been.

First of all: The voice actors in the cartoon were American, but the art styles and designs were meticulously built to reflect other cultures. Tibettan monks for the Airbenders, Inuit tribes for the Waterbenders, WWII Japan for the Firebenders, and China for the Earthbenders.

The Rueters one is stupid, I'll give you that, but as for Aang not harming anyone in the cartoon, at the end of Book One he went berserk in the Avatar State and killed thousands of people.

Then both "Avatar" movies sucked ass.

Jesus... how could they give M.Night Shamaylan this movie??? It was like an announced disaster!

Well there goes any hope of a future live action release of Full Metal Alchemist and Akira. I'm guessing that like Dragonball, this movie's gonna bomb and anime adaptions are gonna be a no go zone. Everyone saying the series was bad, screw you, most anime's wish they could have been as good or as successful as Avatar.

why would you want such adaptations? They never end up any good anyways

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I really don't know what people were expecting out of this. How could one be disappointed knowing fully well the history of cartoons to live action adaptations? They just don't work. It's like being shocked that somehow the next big video game adaptation to a film is less than stellar, or the next film adaptation to videogame form sucks eggs. Duh...

Learn to form realistic expectations and you'll all be disappointed far less often.

Lol.

Regardless, i'm going to see it.
