Forums - Nintendo - Reggie possibly “mistaken” about 2011 3DS release!

I dunno Reggie has been wrong many times before. However I can't recall any times he's been wrong since he became NOA President. I think he was probubly telling the truth and maybe the Japanese release date will be in December and the American date in mid late January.

I think you have short memory. He was saying there will be no Wii price cut just a few months before it happened.

Or he could just be playing it safe. We don't know how fast Sharp can ramp up production of 3d screens so they plan before Christmas release in Japan and after Christmas in USA but if there will be enough supply then they will speed up release date in US.

Now price cuts are something where it makes perfect sense for him to lie; I would think it far more likely he was lying in that instance (do you really think the NoA president didn't know about the price cut?). But for the life of me I can't imagine any motive for him to lie about this.

Same motive as for price cut. If you wanted DS now you more likely to buy it when it's successor is released somewhere in 2011 then when it's released on december 2010.

I hope it comes out for Christmas so I can have an excuse for mindless spending.

If they do a global release before 2010, I am positive they will not be able to meet demand.

Even with a hypothetical $199 MSRP, they will likely be harder to come by than the Wii during 2006.

Even with a staggered release across all major regions, I still see the 3DS selling out across the board on a constant basis.

Once again, it may just be a simple matter of how many units Nintendo can supply at retail that determines sales.

It should be interesting to see what, if any effect the impending release of the 3DS has on sales of the DSl/DSi/DSXL this holiday season. If Nintendo anticipates any potential hold off could throw their projections for the QTR, who knows? Maybe they will do a limited "guerrilla" release. Unfortunately, it would be console flippers who benefit the most from such a scenario.
