Don't they realise that, even if it sells out everywhere, and parents are fighting in the streets to get one, thats just epic marketing which you simply cannot pay for.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
i think that it will come out in na after 2010 (maybe in feb.) just for the fact that a bunch of retailers might give great bargins for all the ds sku's. Even if it is coming before 2011, it would be dumb on nintendo to release it after black friday and i don't see nintendo being able to release this in november imo.

People, I'm pretty sure 3DS is coming out next year. Don't get your hopes up. The DS still has a lot going for it. For example, Okamiden isn't coming out until 2011.
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
Maybe Reggie means that you'll be able to walk in to a store and buy a 3DS sometime in early 2011. For pre-orders and campers and eBay scalpers it will launch 2010.

When NoA president says one thing and "sources close to" says the opposite, I expect Reggie to be the one who is correct. Not saying he couldn't be wrong, just that on the one hand you have the guy who should know better than anyone what the US release date is, and on the other hand you have someone who could have any lowly position you want to name (including the position of not actually working for Nintendo).

You don't think he's more concerned with selling off as many DSi's as possible before the 3DS release?

I don't think the sales of DSis in the time between now and when we know the release date for certain would be significantly impacted by whether the 3DS is 5 months away or 8 months away.

I agree. There is no link. Plus from Kotaku it could just be wishful thinking.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
I dunno Reggie has been wrong many times before. However I can't recall any times he's been wrong since he became NOA President. I think he was probubly telling the truth and maybe the Japanese release date will be in December and the American date in mid late January.
Origionally I thought it made no sense to release in early 2011 Nintendo would be missing the holiday season. However it donned on me, the 3DS will sell out regardless and Nintendo really won't benefit at all from launching it for Christmas. Why steal thunder from the regular DS this holiday season when you can sell just as many units launching right after the holidays.
For Japan this doesn't matter as Christmas isn't as big out there. But honestly Nintendo will have a hard enough time keeping stock on shelves with a launch in Jan, Feb or March they don't need a holiday launch.
Not to mention I'm broke this holiday season so I sorta hope it launches early next year so I can afford to get my hands on one without using my credit card
