As a total shot in the dark I'd say $15 million budget (most of the salaries for 40 people over 5 years is about $7-8 million, then add on overheads and other stuff gotta be getting up to the $15 million easy). Can't remember that chart showing ther break down of the game price between studio, publisher, retailer etc, was it $20 to the studio? Anyway assuming that, 15 million/$20 = 750K. So I figure Remedy's break even is 750K. They should get there eventually, ekeing out 1 million over time, though probably at a reduced price between 750K and 1 million. They'll make a profit for sure, but not a large one, certainly not large enough to fund AW2, so they need the income from DLC and some seed money from MS to complete AW2. But given cost savings for AW2 I figure the 2nd game will break even at 500K or less and assuming it's at least equal in quality the 2nd game should make them a tidy profit.

The fortunate thing with KZ2 and the Uncharted's is the 1st partyness, so the dev and publisher are essentially the same company which means the price pie is cut into fewer pieces. Uncharted 2 didn't take very long to make. I'm guessing UC2 broke even before Christmas, and I reckon KZ2 did too (with it's longer selling time).

If AW got made for a considerably lower budget than most AAA games then that just adds to Remedy's reputation so much more. Being able to make a game that looks and plays as well as people say for a modest budget is impressive.

Sounds about right. Gears2 cost $12M and they had a team of 60 people, healthcare, and 401K costs. Salaries at epic are probably higher too.

This is a to be expected though, right?  I mean the difference in userbase size is such that the smaller group would typically be more homogenous?

Additionally, the percents are skewed by the difference in size as well.  For example if the Japan userbase = 10 and the US = 100, then if only 3 people bought it in japan, it would have a higher attach rate than if 25 bought it in the US.

That being said, it's a kick-ass game and deserved more sales.

thats good
