Kojima doesn't hype?
Remember "MGS3 will be my last MGs eva!"
Another way to hype a game to get more fans to buy it......thats how I see it.

It's hard to gauge this, as most repeat buyers still recirculate their old systems (traded in, resold themselves or given to friends/family) which keeps tie ratios healthy. Iwata's actually talked about this phenomenon before with regards to DS... the "core" buy each iterative update, but they recirculate their old system to people who might not necessarily go out and buy a "new" system (but still may purchase new games). |
Yah, but with the move to Slim being also the promise of a quieter, more reliable console I'm wondering if the buy-up on older consoles will be less. It might not, in which case the pattern will be the same as before, with second hand buyers getting a device then buying SW as usual. But in this case I think there is a reasonable chance we might see some clear signals of whether a different pattern is in effect due to the other circumstances.
I've always wondered about second hand 360 sales and whether they are in line with other devices. I wouldn't touch one myself due to the chance of getting an early RROD prone model, but of course people wanting to save money want to save money so it's hard to gauge as you say.
If there is no clear change in HW/SW relationship then we can surmize most re-buys have results in the old console finding a new home, if there is we might get a view on the percentage of 360 owners re-buying.
I'm interested more because I get a feeling there is going to be more re-buying here than for any other home console I know - although it may be less than goes on with hand held re-models.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
