it's all PR speak - they'd deny anything just because they don't want to kill their current psp business until they are actually ready to release.

I played a psp2 in my dream yesterday! I hope it doesn't look like it did in my dream though.
Bullshit Sony lol.. you will make 3D Gaming for portible, you said the same thing when Nintendo was pushing for the casual and motion controller damigraphic.. when you see how seccessful 3D Gaming is in the portible space you will do the same thing just like casual gaming

The general consensus is that Nintendo "won" E3 last week, largely because of the company's newly unveiled 3DS portable, which was quite impressive. While Nintendo is innovating on the handheld side with 3D visuals (no glasses necessary), Sony is making a hard push to get gamers to buy a 3D television, 3D glasses and play 3D games on the PS3. Meanwhile, the PSP business has struggled somewhat and could benefit from a refresh of the hardware. Might Sony take their 3D obsession to the portable space and follow in Nintendo's footsteps? It's not looking that way. Sony Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde told IndustryGamers as part of an in-depth interview straight-up that Sony is not planning on it. "No, no plans for that," he said when we asked about 3D in a future PSP. When we pushed him on why we haven't heard anything about a rumored PSP2, he responded, "It’s just not something we’re announcing right now. It’s just as simple as that. It’s all I can tell you." SCE boss Kaz Hirai also recently downplayed the importance of 3D visuals in a portable without specifically mentioning the 3DS. Hirai said that the 3D capabilities are too imprecise on portables. “Based off internally conducted research, naked-eye 3D for portables does not have high precision, and at present there are limitations," he noted. Frankly, we'd be surprised if Sony didn't announce a new PSP soon, either at Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show. David Reeves, ex-President and CEO of SCEE and current Capcom Europe COO, said that Sony better launch a new PSP soon if they want to remain at all in the race with Nintendo on the handheld side. We agree. source industrygamer.com |
Nintendo begs to differ Kaz Harai..
RIIIIIDGE RAAAACER!!
Anyway, I could see why Sony would be hesitant for 3D on PSP2, it could undermine their 3D push on their home console. Also, with Sony being stretched thin between high cost HD projects, 3D, and the Move, and the crappy economy, I'm not sure they're in the best financial situation to release yet ANOTHER piece of hardware anytime soon.
That would be stupid. (I only read title)
Let's see, you're a big electronics company trying to push all your other departments 3D products. I know, lets not put 3D where it will be most popular to support that initiative. Yeah!

Well outside of Japan, they don't have much of a PSP business at this point.

Yep, sure. Not only would it be foolish not to include 3D support, but considering their PR blunders before...it's likely this is no exception.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
Sony right now is in a bad position. You guys think that they just have to add 3d on PSP2 and have PS3 graphic capabilities and problem solved?
Sony is pushing 3D on TV because it's competing with ther electronic companies that are offering the same product and are using the PS3 as a jumping platform like it was for the push of Blue-Ray. Just imagine the huge money investment the company has given for 3D TV since it's the future, they want to be part of that.
adding 3D in a portable with PS3 like graphics has the huge risk of killing the PS3 and their money on 3DTV. They just simply can't do that without losing A LOT of money.
one of the reasons sony is hesitant is the higher the resolution the more problems you run into with portable 3D tech and then there is the question of who owns the best tech going forward and sony tends to go proprietry
