Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 5, Damage explained

Heya, I know this has been posted before but I didn't really understand what PD were saying. So I saw this at Gamespot and decided to share it. For idiots like myself that didn't understand it, here it is!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.gtplanet.net/more-confusion-over-standard-car-interiors/

iGameReport emailed Polyphony to clarify the notion that GT5's standard cars will not have a modeled interior.

Polyphony's Response:

"Standard cars do indeed have a cockpit/dashboard view, just not nearly as detailed as the premium cars. The existing cars are not just being copied; they are all being generated properly to create authentic experiences from car to car."

That means Premium cars will just be more detailed with full-cosmetic damage on top of the physics damage which will be applied to every single car in the game.

--

All 1,000+ cars in the game will have physics-affecting damage (including rollover) with fully modeled interiors.

To clarify even further (physics related):

All 1,000+ cars will have physics-affecting damage. Premium cars will have added detail and deformation (cosmetic damage) on top of everything else. These additional features will not affect gameplay as they are all visual additions.

Sorry, I'm new to this GT-lark. Standard/Premium cars.. what is this? Are premium cars DLC, or something?

Yup, this has indeed been posted before, but I'm glad more people are getting clarified with this. In August Gamescon, GT5 is going to have a full media blowout, which will dispel any confusion left with official announcements by PD, since there is also some undisclosed features left to announce: http://www.gtplanet.net/major-gran-turismo-5-feature-still-undisclosed/

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

Premium cars are highly detailed models that have been built up from scratch and have an absurd amount of attention to every minute detail. They even have fully modeled interiors (not the dashboard alone but everything inside the cockpit, from seats, belts, etc) and feature full physical damage (panel dislocation and such).

Standard cars are slightly less detailed, modeled from previous GT cars and don't have modeled interiors, only the dashboard view. They also don't feature the major physical damage, only scratches and dents.

All 1000 cars, 200 premium and 800 standard will be featured in the GT5 game, not DLC.

If you get the collectors edition it says ( http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-collectors-edition-pre-order-incentives-announced/ )=

"The exciting pre-order program for Gran Turismo 5 offers exclusive and beautiful in-game cars as bonuses, including the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R GT500, McLaren F1, and more. Each car features an exclusive and stylish Gran Turismo-themed “stealth” livery custom-designed by Polyphony Digital, with select performance upgrades over the standard versions of the cars available in the game"

"Custom designed" me likes. :0

I'm hoping to see more of these custom pre-order themes for premium cars. Livery customization has been one of the features in older GT's, but for internal parts not external. This could mean that there's more aspects of the customization left to unveil too.
