-I am in no way shape or form defending this game. I just want to point out some tidbits-

FFXI released in november 2002, in japan. was a whole 11 months later before it released outside japan. during that near year FFXI had similar issues. It was not until Chains of Promathia, in my honest opinion and experience with FFXI, did the game become the greatness it is now.

I am giving SE the benefit of the doubt that this game will pull a FFXI

The problem is even the Japanese players are complaining :P

Look at the japanese Amazon site reviews for the game :P

Though just found out you can look at other people's stats online, which is kinda cool.  Like Armory from WoW

That is pretty cool, kinda like ffxiah but minus the missions and quests.

I'm perfectly fine with an MMO releasing in not a completely finished state but it is in no way acceptable for FFXIV to be released in the condition it's currently in.  While FFXI wasn't near perfect when it released, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as FFXIV is.

SE is essentially punishing us for them rushing the game out.

whats your major gripe with it, the UI? was the same way with xi, slow and annoying. is it still slow and annoying?

I have many complaints, the biggest of which is the UI.  The UI in XI wasn't exactly the greatest thing, but it wasn't bad either.  The UI in XIV is just a giant mess that's slow, laggy, inconvenient, unintuitive, and just plain outdated.

Also, I don't remember the UI in XI ever actually being slow and laggy.  It was a pretty simply UI that worked fine for what it was.  XI was a PS2 game first so it makes sense they had a menu made for the PS2.  XIV is not a PS3 game first and even if it were, it's 2010 and people want a UI that actually works well.  There's no excuse for that awful of a UI.

You almost sound offended I and just about every other rational personal that has experienced hates the UI, do you like it?

Why would I be offended? I am not the one who wastes money on an mmo when it is first launch. I still have XI and am in no rush for XIV till mid to late next year when I know things will be smoothed out.

But curious though, in the making of the realm videos didn't they mention that they build this around the ps3 for UI reasons?

I didn't watch those videos and while the game is better when using a controller, it still isn't good.  They also shouldn't completely forget about the keyboard when every PC user will have one and every PS3 user can have one (and they made us buy a HDD for XI, it's not hard stretch to make us buy a keyboard for XIV).

The UI in XIV is just outdated and plain bad.  I really cannot think of a single positive thing to say about it.

All I am saying is come back in a year and I am sure you will find the game a lot better. It is pretty bad that they released something of this caliber but it is common place in the mmo world, though it could be debatable that this title is a bit worse. Maybe by the time the ps3 version releases, or maybe on the first expansion.

If it can last that long..

I just noticed "Shield" is a "job"?

Anyone know if you get additional physical xp if using a shield with your regular weapon? :P

And if yes:

Anyone know where you can buy a shield "cheapish" 460k in Ul'dah doesn't sound fun :P

Whats your opinion of the game Tanstalas, I think you were really hyped

I can't help but think many are over-exaggerating the problems and acting like they can't be solved through patches before the PS3 version is out.

Whats your thoughts? Can issues be fixed easily?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Eh while there are issues with the game, I can still play it. I hope they fix them down the line but atm, it doesn't keep me from playing. My main gripe is targeting but since I play solo or duo most of the time, it's not too bad.

That's my character... Jobs at rank 10 are what I like. The rest doesn't really interest me, tbh, I've tried them in the beta. The only thing I didn't do was weaver... So I've tried it yesterday, since I'd like to make my own clothes, I still haven't decided if I like it or not. There's someone else in the LS that does it but I'd rather not ask people to do things for me all the time or buy them... I'm just like that. My fiance & I share stuff though and that's fine.

I haven't been playing everyday either, it just doesn't keep my attention enough... Hence why I'm not at a very high level. My fiance plays everyday but I've banned the game for tommorow. XD

Why should I come back in a year when SE clearly should have waited a year to release the game?

If this were some small startup company I could understand the they need the money excuse but this is SE, they have the money to delay the game.  This isn't just small things they're missing, I can handle that, they're missing large parts of the game and the game is just broken. What they do have is pretty much garbage.  The worse than no solution retainer system, the bland quests, the broken UI, the worthless maps, not remembering recipes, and the list goes on.

Just thinking again about macros, first off, they don't actually work.  You can't equip two items with the same name on two different slots (i.e. rings) and 1/2/3 items can't be equipped at all through macros.  Furthermore, there are 22 equipment slots but a maximum of 10 lines per macro (you can type as many as you want, it will only process the first 10).  That means to change jobs I need a macro that unequips all my actions for each action bar I'm using, a macro that equips my new actions for each action bar I'm using, and two equipment macros.  That means to switch jobs I'll need at least 4 macros.  To make things worse, you have to wait for each macro to finish before you can move onto the next so you'll be waiting about 5 seconds per macro.  Again, just scratching the surface of the problems here.

As it stands, fuck this game, if they can't respect me enough to not release an incomplete mess I won't respect them enough to try it again down the road.

They had to release FFXIV this year as an "in between" game between FFXIII and between the  Versus XIII/Agito XIII hype machine which will start in Jan 2011.

They didn't have to release the game, they chose to because they wanted money and just assumed people would put up with the problems.  I assume that every presentation the outsourcers made to SE was a giant dog and pony show hiding the actual problems and promosing the existing problems would be fixed quickly.

And they could also try not hyping their games five years in advance, that works too.
