Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo to make "serious" 3DS titles

I like the idea of "more serious" games, but I must scoff ever so slightly at the idea as the same company looking to make "serious games" showed off two remakes of N64 games we've all played to death, as "3DS games."

Seriously.

They had me at "Kid Icarus," they lost me with "N64 remakes."

They are not remakes. They are ports.

Thanks for the semantics, but my point remains valid.  And from what I've seen online, there are quite a number of people who, for some reason, have grossly different ideas of what makes a game a "remake."

Regardless, they're both still lame ways to sell the 3DS.

Yeesh.

"We've all played to death" means only tiny portion of the 3DS buyers or even buyers of the N64 remakes. In reality, only few people under 20 have ever even seen these two games. Even most of those who call themselves as "serious gamers" have not played those 2 games.

From what I've seen, they are remakes. A port is the same game. A remake is one redone. Seeing as how the graphics are better, it's a remake.

2 whole ports.  Honestly, that's no worse than GBC, GBA, DS or PSP upfront...

Oh that's nonsense.  Maybe, maybe fewer "under 20 gamers" haven't played StarFox64, but the fact is, Nintendo released Ocarina of Time on the N64, on the GameCube twice, and downloadable on the Wii.  In fact, StarFox64 is on the Wii.  If there are people under 20 who are "serious gamers" (which I doubt anyone under 20 is since they're still kids) who haven't played Ocarina of Time or StarFox64--it's because they just don't want to.  It has nothing to do with availability of those games.  In reality, those games have been played to death.  Releasing them again will not instantly cause the games to reach new audiences.

It's just lazy fan service.  Kid Icarus, on the other hand, is welcome fan service.

This sounds vaguely like that whole "Iwata was understood to have called Apple the enemy of the future," thing.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Wut?

There are 2 remakes from Nintendo out of 9 games...

The remake of Ocarina was acclaimed like no other Nintendo franchise, so many people is extremely happy of this. Do you know what Zelda URA was? A project for a Nintendo 64's Zelda with many, many things which needed the 64DD addon; but it failed so they reduced extremely the game and it became firstly Ocarina and next, some of the features of the game were implemented in Majora. So they're plently of things which can be added to the game (you can still find many secondary quests or parts of codes unused in Ocarina's rom).

Starfox yes may be a port to make money, but come on, if you don't like a game, which is not a port in this case, it doesn't mean it's a bad thing to port them to 3DS...about all of us havn't seen the game in 3D at the E3 stage, so we don't even know if it pushes that type of game to another level!
