Forums - Sales - Metroid: Other M sales predictions thread

Ask me this question in at least one year, when you have some numbers, that you can present me

Other M has sold less so far than Corruption did in its first two weeks by VGChartz numbers.

By NPD numbers, it's about on level with Corruption's first week.

Sales patterns don't lie very often. It's sales are dropping faster, harder, and lower than Corruption. Chances are extremely high it will end up selling considerably less in the long-term.

I don´t think that a game with a new gameplay will sell very fast very much. Unfortunately, it falls very fast in the USA. In japan, it sold more units than corruption or echoes did. I expect/hope the game will sell 5k a week for a long time. Than we will see.

And yes *rolleyes* it flopped because it earns more than it costs....

Out of curiosity, how do other Nintendo "sequels" on Wii compare this year for NPD?  Like Mario Galaxy vs Galaxy 2?  I wonder how Wii Party will track versus Wii Play too, this might be more of a platform issue than MOM's negative response might be letting on...

It failed and it will fail. Whatever way you wish to look at MOM's sales, the conclusion is going to be failure.

Thankfully when Sakamoto and Team Ninja repurpose the engine for that 3DS Return of Samus remake, it'll be a critical and commercial success. <3 <3

I couldn't tell you; I haven't kept up with SMG2 in terms of NPD. I might have if I was running a topic like this one, but it's sold consistently well since it launched, I believe.

Sequels do not tend to do great on Wii, but that's not the whole problem, here.

You pic up the facts you want to use and ignore all the others... SMG sold nearly 9 Mio, SMG2 4... (yes, 4 Mio is a flop, of course  what ever.... )

BAck to metroid topic...

Well, no, the (western) critical response to Galaxy 2 and MOM are like night and day.  I was just wondering though, all I really have for both games is Japan (where Galaxy 2's tracking behind, while MOM's tracking ahead, for some obvious reasons).  Wii party is also lagging Wii Play in Japan afaik... I really do wonder how Zelda will turn out next year too.  Late term 2nd Zeldae (MM, Oracles, TP GC, ST) never seem to do as well.

Wii Party shouldn't be compared to Wii Play; I would sooner compare it to Mario Party or to nothing at all.

I'd say the game has more in common with Wii Play from a market perspective (Wii ____ branding, mandatory controller bundle).  They're somewhat different when you get to the actual games (though within the same general genre), but I'd say the same for Prime 3 and Other M to be honest.
