Forums - Gaming - Harmonix' Dance Central Could Come to PS3, But Not Wii

LOL!

Harmonix tends to get a lot of automatic and instant credibility with the industry press.  Which is bizarre, given they exclusively develop the sort of casual/massmarket games that same industry press usually revolts against and resists at every opportunity.

How do they do Dance Central without full skeletal pickup?

I guess they could downgrade it to Wand movements, but isnt that losing the appeal of what Dance Central is?

This.

I know this is going to be controversial and stuff, but Move and Kinect both have their strengths and limitations.  THIS game is all about Kinect strengths.  A Move version would likely be downgraded so much that it would actually hurt sales and the reputation of the Move.

The only way either new motion controller can succeed is if they recognize the strengths and limitations of each and completely AVOID game types that highlight the limitations.

Eyetoy could do it.

So there's no reason PS3 Eye and Move can't.

Eh... that's just registering an on-screen prompt.  Kinect basically does that for it's dashboard implementation, only it doesn't require a specific area to be hit even (just general left/right/up/down movements).  Even Wii sans Motion Plus could probably manage what's done in this video.

That's not at all full body tracking, which is something we've also yet to see in any PSEye games or game demos afaik...

The biggest issue here is the fact Sony has failed to show how powerful the Eyetoy is since  Selnor knows so much about the technology which Harmonix doesn't.

I'm afraid there's this notion of full body tracking that I haven't grasped yet. What I could find is the following :

"Kinect tracks your full body movement in 3-D, while responding to commands, directions, even a difference of emotion in your voice, a much more advance version of the eyetoy."

Now that doesn't mean much to me, I'm not even sure of what 3-D has to do in this. Full body tracking, to me, would be a matter of processing information in a certain way. But then, I would think than any camera can do it.

Feel free to explain it to me. But then, if your definition of full body tracking resembles that of "spinoff", I may just be losing my time.

aw thats too bad. this game looked so good and would be a perfect fit on the Wii... guess Ill just get Just Dance 2 instead

It's because it was the only demo for the Kinect at E3 that wasn't bogged down by the infamous avatar delays, and the gaming press has to find some way to avoid admitting the Microsoft presentation was about as bad as the Nintendo 08 presentation.

And I know that's what's going on because this is a Kotaku article, a long Nintendo-hating site and HD kiss-up.

BTW, I think the camera is a reason to not have a Wii version, but if wearing sensors are required for the PS3 version (but again, if), then sensors should work for the Wii version, just reading from the sensor bar.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Harmonix didn't say anything about Eyetoy.  They said they'd investigate the possibility of doing a port with Move.

Their actual analysis of why Dance Central could be great is a lot more in depth than simple Nintendo hating

And are you suggesting that they did nothing for the hardcore? No new games, but they demoed Halo, Gears, CoD and showed off Halo. Not amazing, but not nothing
