Forums - Nintendo - Square Enix lie more: FF V and VI not on DS due to "technical issues"

This is old news.

Also V and VI are vastly larger than III and IV. So I don't understand how Square is lying here?

The maximum size of V and VI is like 4MB for the original games. This is also true of IV. There is no way that there is a technical problem for V and VI that would not have existed for IV. All three were on the same system, and none used any special tricks.

Well you have to remember that SE likes the DS re-makes to have voice-overs, 3d visuals, and CGI cutscenes. Kinda hard to fit that all on the DS cartridge.

He said "also" because a previous poster had asked about possible download release for Super Famicom's Seiken Densetsu 3. Hashimoto's response here was, "This is also at preset undecided."

Do it!

...and then release it here too...

The original 5 and 6 are on the SNES. The DS is superior in every way to the SNES. More space, more cpu, more ram. The SNES cards were about 4 Mega Bytes. The DS can have 256 Mega Bytes. There are no technical limitations. Square just does this. They make excuses to redirect. I heard in Japanese businessmen don't say "No". This could be a case where Sqaure would rather fault a different target than there decision.

Though I think they intend for the 3DS myself.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

So hard that they have done it twice before already. FF III and IV are already on the system, with a working engine. How is FF V or VI so special that it would be more difficult? The games are of comparable in length, and amount of dialogue. There is absolutely nothing special about either of those games in comparison to IV as evidenced by all 3 existing on both the SNES and GBA.

Listen, the DS has ugly 3D. FFV and FFVI are special because they are more popular especially FF6. I know me and a million of other FF6 fans would be pissed off to see Terra, Kefka, and the gang in chibi forms and a 2D overworld with 25 seconds of summons. The DS doesn't give FF6 justice given the amount of production quality that game has. Now the 3DS is able to give it a full fledge remake it deserves.

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything mentioned before now. As for it not looking good, have you seen the original game? Graphics showcase it is not. FF III and IV look plenty good enough, and hell the game doesn't even need to be in 3D. The original one sure as hell wasn't. I don't really care though. I don't need a copy of the games on every system I own. I love them well enough, but I like new games as well.

Someone asked Hashimoto for an update on possible DS ports of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI. Hashimoto's response was "For FF5 and 6, there are technical issues as well, so at present these are also undecided."

Why the disbelief?  "We can make more money doing it a different way" counts as a "technical issue," no?

I think the only real difference between them was that FFVI used Mode 7 for the world map, which is what gave it that 3D-like appearance, but nothing that would make it impossible to put on the DS.

S-E lies out their asses lately.

I'm fairly confident that FF IV also used Mode 7 as part of the "wow" factor. (Edit: Confirmed.  All SNES FF games did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mode_7) Moreover, if the GBA can handle it, I don't see why the DS couldn't.  What confuses me is why people are asking for a DS port in the first place, to be honest, since the games are already available on the GBA.  Ease of access?

They did it with FFIV and only used a 128MB card.  DS now has cards that go up to 1GB, bigger than a PlayStation CD-ROM.

If they remake v and vi with great graphics on 3ds i hope they do 4 also. I'd rather have  the remakes on wii or ps3 tho.
