Forums - Sales Discussion - Is It Possible For GT5 To OutSell Halo Reach Lifetime?...I Think So!

BBH. How is that constructive. Myself and Lestatdark were both using reasonableness. I didnt hate on him at all.

Try using actual evidence and knowing something about racing to have a normal conversation. Attacking someone is nothing more than you not having a clue.

I think the question should be, is it possible for Halo to outsell GT lifetime?

this

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Popular franchises don't keep going up in popularity continuously, they rise and fall. They have a peak. Look at Final Fantasy, wasn't the peak in sales number 7? Also, the number of fans of a franchise doesn't increase in direct ratio to the number of consoles sold. There seems to be a limit, which is normal. I give the large numbers of sales of MGS4 on a small PS3 install base as an example, compared to previous MGS title sales compared to install base numbers.

I can't imagine how Halo could suddenly go from a 10million seller franchise to a 25million seller franchise from one game to the next, it's a kind of utter madness which I've never seen before. Reach will either sell more or less than 3, with little difference either way.

If either franchise is going to be reaching any peaks this generation, it'd be the game in the over saturated market (I refer to first person shooters). Good driving sim games, especially GT are the types of games that appeal to a wider range of age demographics, so for a lot of driving sim fans out there (who we know exist given GT's massive sales in the past) who may or may not own a PS3, a good driving sim game like GT5 is exactly what they're looking for.

There are plenty of games for shooter enthusiasts. Look at the sales of new games emerging into un-tapped markets. Wii Fit, Guitar Hero. Gran Turismo 5 is pretty much tapping into the untapped market of a really good driving sim. Halo has been done.

I don't think Halo Reach (yet another first person shooter) is something people are really yearning for, as good as the game looks. Please don't take any of what I write as inflammatory, I mean it in the best spirit possible as I love both franchises. Halo:CE is one of my all time fav's.

MW2 has almost outsold Halo 3 on 360 alone. This is for 2 reasons, 1 when it came out 360 install base was more than doubled, 2 95% of people that bough the game bough it for Multiplayer, so when Halo ODST came out those 95% bough that instead

When Halo Reach comes the 360 will have like 8 million more consoles sold than when MW2 came out. This plus the fact that Halo Reach will have 25% attach ratio at the very least, thats already 12-13 million sales right there. Now lets not forget that Halo has legs, no franchise other than Mario has better legs, so again WTF ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT? Life time sales for Halo Reach is gonna look like 15-17 million, can GT5 do that? I doubt it, but its certainly not impossible. Halo Reach will be the biggest 360 exclusive.

I'm super psyched to see how both of these titles do against eachother. No doubt Halo Reach will get off to a strong start. Gamers in the US seem to pick up their copies day one or week one, while here in Europe people seem to have delayed reactions.

and it's clear that GT:5 will outsell Halo Reach in Japan and the EU, so will enough gamers in the US buy enough copies of Halo:Reach to make up and pass out the difference? Another PS3 price drop would also help GT:5 tons, but it's very difficult to predict it's sales, seeing as that fanbase has little representation this gen.

My money's still on GT:5

Make no mistake. It will be up to Codemasters and Bernie together whether or not Polyphony will have the F1 2007 Ferrari in GT5. The only way I see it is if Codemasters see it as no conflict to there own game.

And to be honest 1 or 2 F1 cars will not stop 'anyone' buying F1 2010 if they love F1. By the latest report by InsideSimRacing F1 2010's F1 handling and racing model will be ahead anyone over GT5 F1 models.

F1 2010 is including full tyre deformation ( which includes the rubber shredding causing marbles on the tyres and track ). flatspots from locking up under braking affecting the vibrations through the force feedback etc.

The only place on consoles to race an F1 car this year realistically is F1 2010.

I watch this video and saw no mention of Gt5. Also Codemaster made it clear F1 2010 physics will not be as realitsic as Rfactor or Iracing F1 cars. They are not trying to make the most realistic F1 sim but a more casual racers with an more interesting career mode. They are trying to sim the actually F1 racing experience more than F1 cars.

Have you ever braked late in FM3 with all assists off? Or tried to brake in a corner. Off the track is where you will end up. In fact when FM3 released, on these very forums there was a thread dedicated to helping people with FM3. People were complaining it was to hard to take corners because the car went straight on.

Here is where Turn 10 got their data from for Aerodynamic airflow:

None other than The best racing simulator in the world. Mclarens F1 simulator provided alot of data and help.

"Turn-10 Studios is pulling out all the stops to make sure Forza 3 isn't just another racing sim, but the racing sim. And it's doing that by sneaking a peek at data yanked from the simulator Lewis Hamilton uses for practice."

"Their simulator was an influence on the game," director Dan Greenwalt told OXM. "We were swapping notes on how they do the complex fluid dynamics for their aerodynamics as well as how they generally simulate tyres, offroad surfaces and what have you."

I have . One time my car was starting to oversteer so I hit the brakes very hard which cause the car to suddenly stop oversteering and skid straight. Anti-lock brakes?! FM3 is a good racing sim yet it has it's short coming as well especially when it comes to braking.  It's obvious Turn 10 cut corners whhen it came to FM3 physics.

SolidSnakeR4D: the 17m more potential buyers don't want HALO as they would have bought it the first time.

HALO's hardcore base is around 5-6m,other just hoped because of the hype and COOLNESS and slowly it reached 10m with HALO REACH

a little more time and sales following and you will learn that userbase doesn't always matter

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I can understand your reasoning you think that none of the 360 buyers since Halo 3 launched have bought the game?  Less than half the buyers are hardcore users which is important, somehow and you offer some sage advice from the vastly superiour height of your 2300 posts.  Well thanks, I guess.

Cherrypicking the few examples where larger userbase didn't translate into larger sales doesn't negate basic logic.  Not for me at least.  I offered some reasoned and reasonable points while you offer nos. from Sony's golden age and a heaping helping of humble pie.  Previous GT game's LT sales were infuenced by the large and growing userbase last gen just as the smaller base for GT5 and the larger base for Reach vs. H3 will each have an effect.

It will be interesting to see if god's gift to game sales prognostication or poor noobius maximus with 336 posts proves more accurate.  Good luck sir!  You'll need it.  I was under the impression this site wanted more users.  From the years I have been following VGC it needs a lot more 360 owners to approach some kind of objective balance.

This Michael is on roll ROFLMAO. Where u get all this stuff?

1.gt3 sold a lot more than 400k in 2 weeks. Only in us it was over 1 million.

2.forza 2 vs gt3 in 2009? Are u for real?

3.Forza 2 DID NOT sold more than prologue. OFFICIAL report says prologue is close to 5 millions, about 4.8.

4.THERE IS NO CHANCE forza 3 ll end on 7 millions.

5.COD is much bigger franchise now than it was in 2007. So reach ll have much bigger competition in black ops than halo 3 had with cod4. Common sense dude.

Its that easy.

1. Actually I forgot vgchartz has Japan only data for weekly sales, so this is my mistake

2. Typo I mean Forza 3

3. What official reports? Were on VGChartz, the Guiness Book of World records using CGChartz, and everyone here is using CGChartz to report sales figures. Forza Motorsport 2 sold 4 million, and GT5 Prologue sold like 3.6 million.

And if you find this official report about Prologue, find one for Forza Motorsport 2 because it's just as likely that both sales figures are fudged down, and Forza 2 would still be ahead.

4. The game is at 2.70 million now, and selling roughly 35,000 units a week in the summer. Come fall sales will pick up to around 100,000 units a week again (or at least 70,000 weekly). So lets say now to september the game sells 35,000 weekly and september to end of the year it sells 70,000 weekly. Thats 11 weeks selling 35k, and 17 weeks selling 70k. thats 385k 1,190k = 1.575 million sales by the end of the year. That puts the game at 4.2 million sales, taking just over a year. It still has 1 extra year before Forza Kinect or Forza 4, or whatever comes out, thats at least another million. I said 5-6 million, but you never know, it could reach 7. Maybe GT5's release will boost Forza sales because Forza will be brought up in many many reviews.

5. No I still beleive you are wrong. Infinity Ward Call of Duty games (and the Modern Warfare franchise) are the more Popular games of the series. This is why Modern Warfare still outsold Treyarchs World at War, and by a large number still. Also with the big news of Infinity Ward falling apart, Call of Duty: Black Ops is a smaller compeditor then Modern Warfare was. Modern Warfare made Call of Duty what it is today, before that Call of Duty games sold under 2 million each. common sence that Modern Warfare is >> Black Ops, Infinity vs Treyarch man.

4.  There is no way that Forza 3 is going to match and then outperform Forza 2.  The latest week of sales for Forza 3 that VGC has that contains all three regions is Week 30, with ~ 41K.  Now let's look at Week 30 for Forza 2.  286.5K.  Big difference.  In the following 3 weeks, Forza 3 wasn't even able to gain an extra 100K in sales (98.3K to be exact).  However, in the following weeks Forza 2 was able to gain over 250K more sales (252.1K to be exact).  Again, big difference.  So can you explain how Forza 3 is going to make up for these sales?  BTW, Week 33 Forza 3 sold only 23.3K (with sales continuing to drop), not 35K.  So how is Forza going to jump by 46.7K-76.7K a week, as you predicted?  Now, I know sales may increase if Forza is bundled for the holiday season, but something tells me MS is going to be pushing other games this season (mainly Reach).

5.  Except Black Ops is more similar to Modern Warfare than World At War, as it takes place in modern times.  Plus, even if Black Ops only performs as well as WAW (~ 6.5 mil on the 360 alone) it will still eat into Reach's possible legs.  And Black Ops, if it is a good game, will probably reap most of the holiday frenzy sales since it launches in Nov.  Another reason I think GT5 will fair so well.  It's being released around the time the holiday buying craze begins.

Joke thread right???
