Its strange to read some of these responses, I'm sure most of you won't believe it but back in the n64/ GC era I would probably have fit the description of nintendo fanboy pretty well. It wasn't until this generation I started to enjoy sony over nintendo. Of course, before any of this it was me and my genesis against the world. But all of this is besides the point. My point in this thread was to question why nintendo can get a free pass on their mistakes. There is unjustified criticism of all game developers, and nintendo has gotten its fair share- some would say more than its fair share. I wasn't trying to sweep that under the rug or in a bubble oblivious to it, I brought it up in my opening post. The difference is, when sony or MS or any one else is criticized - and the criticism is justified- most people agree they made a mistake. For example, sony announces ps3 for 599 usd. Obviously too expensive. Besides a few people who might say that it has a blu-ray player or something along those lines to justify it, most people will come to consensus that sony screwed up, sony fans included. But when a justifiied criticism of nintendo comes up, their poor third party relations for instance, its not their fault. Its the third parties, its money hatting from sony and MS. People refuse to accept that nintendo brought a lot of those problems on itself with its restrictions and harsh regulating of third parties in the N64 and GC era. Thats where I take issue. Thats why I made this thread.

We recognize that Nintendo has made mistakes. And I would like you to point out where Nintendo has gotten a free pass, so that I can bring up counterpoints that they have criticized.

For the bolded. Must I make a list of games Nintendo has made with 3rd parties this generation? Also the harsh regulation was during the NES, SNES periods, plus a little at the begging of the N64, during the GameCube era they tried to make amends with 3rd parties. You should brush up on your history, I can recommend some good books.

And you still haven't addressed the responses you received, like for example the fact that Nintendo has been criticized.

Ill clarify- when I say criticism proof I don't mean that no one has ever criticized nintendo. I'm saying that when they do they are instantly the bad guy, whether or not what they say is true. Nintendo has an "untouchable" status, even a minor rebuke of their policy and the person making the claim must clearly be at least misguided, if not out right evil.

And this doesn't apply to Sony and Microsoft?

All sequels regardless of whether it is a Mario game, Fallout game, Zelda game, Fable game, Doom game, Metroid game and on contain essentially the same gameplay as their predecessors with a few tweaks and better graphics. Rarely do sequels switch it up entirely.

This perceived, faux anger over Nintendo comes from the fact that the widely held gaming God, Shigeru Miyamoto has been quoted as wanting to create Super Mario 128. People don't want to hear stuff from this whom the gaming netroots and industry insiders regularly hail as creating the current console gaming market. What makes it an affront is when a guy who wants to create Super Mario 128 is hailed as a creative genius when he could not even put Peach or a female character in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

People so enamored with Miyamoto forget that there was Atari and Caleco Vision before Nintendo jumped into the home console market.

Henceforth, Miyamoto or Nintendo for that matter was not irreplaceable then and not irreplaceable now. If it would not have been Miyamoto and Nintendo, then Atari or some other gaming company would have been in Nintendo's shoes right now and if Nintendo fails, then Microsoft, Sony and Apple will capitalize on the vaccum left from their demise.

You do know what happened to Atari and Coleco? And there was no console market when Nintendo arrived on the scene, it had crashed and many thought it would stay dead. Nintendo single-handedly brought the console market back to life. And without them Sony would not have entered the console market and thus Microsoft wouldn't have.

You realize admitting you were a fanboy doesn't help you right?  The very fact is being one means you've got an irrational love for something, meaning you're basically being immature about things and like so have illogical thoughts on subjects which hurts your credibility.

As for the other rubbish, Rhonin did a pretty good job from the point you've got your facts wrong to the point that people that stick to one company will always defend it and say the company can do no wrong, hell you bring up the 599 thing Sony fans defended that saying Sony was cutting the consumer a deal... this thread, the reasons you're coming up with, it's all pretty pathetic and missing the real mark, if you're actually pissed about this you should be getting on the cases of everyone that tries to make "their" company look good even when they do something stupid.

Anyone remember Wii bingo? There was so much criticism of the Wii and Nintendo that we made a game of it. It's completely assinine to say that Nintendo hasn't received a lot of criticism.

Did you read my last post?

It's painful to read wall of text.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Post summary - 'Nintendo can never be criticized and if anybody rebuts my post then they prove my point because they won't let me criticize Nintendo.' It's a wee bit self-fulfilling don't you think?

Well if you actually read the gaming press you'll see that Nintendo has been ripped to shreds by them this generation. IGN in particular (probably the biggest gaming media company) has written some very critical articles on Nintendo. The reason why the core games that Nintendo makes are universally praised is because they are very nearly universally found extremely enjoyable. Nintendo does have some very good studios, whether you like their games style or not.

Abit off-topic but I notice the Nintendo fanboys on this site tend to have cutesy/kiddy display pics. It's somewhat sickening to imaginea 20-something fat boy idolising kiddy stuff like that.

I want you to ask yourself if your post was really necessary.
