Forums - Gaming - Gizmodo seeks flame: "Why It's Sad Sony Lost the Videogame Hardware Race "

reason I see a grim future for Sony is because they seem to be backing two things that are doomed for failure.

The first is the 3D, which although cool, requires a $3000 investment just to utilize it. Nobody is going to invest in this, so I agree with the article that Sony is simply wasting resources venturing in a field that nobody is going to take part in. Also, Nintendo has already one upped them in making a handheld capable of 3D, with no stupid glasses, and a mere fraction of the cost. Nintendo has taken away the edge from Sony's 3D, and they have barely even started using it yet.

The second one, the Move, is going to fail. Why? Several reasons, but the main reason is the Wii has already done this. It is lacking the "new" factor. Sony just naively thinks that now that THEY are making motion controls, they will be successful like Nintendo. But really it comes down to the GAMES. I have seen no games that have shown Sony is serious about motion control. They are all cheap Wii imitators or traditional core games with motion control tacked on. Sony is trying to appeal to core AND casual gamers, but the irony is they will get neither. Many core users on their system didn't like Wii motion controls, so why would they like SONY motion controls? The casual audience is already on Wii, so why would they invest $400 for a new console that does the same thing as Wii? HD graphics? Please..

Let's not forget, Sony already tried motion control with the PS3.. it was called the Sixaxis, and guess what? It failed. What makes people think now that the Sixaxsis it cut in two and more advanced, it will be successful? Sony's has also had motion control with the PS Eye, and that also wasn't successful.

To put it bluntly, Sony is going to at the very least be very crippled when these two main ventures end up backfiring on them, and because of this, I don't see a PS4 coming anytime soon, if ever. What they should focus on is GAMES. These are the true reasons people will buy a PS3. Not expensive extra features like 3D that 99% of people will not use, or motion control technology that is 4 years old. Sony is taking risks, which I guess is a good thing, but they are taking risks on the wrong things IMO.

That's fine by me.  I'll take my MLB11: The Show, and I'm going to have one hell of great damn time playing it with my Move.

well it took em 3 generations make the BEST engineered console.

too bad the market doesn't see that but goes for the cheaper and "hip" things.

You know engineering also counts towards development tools, network/multiplayer software, console operating system etc as well?

Tease.

Good analysis and good use of constructive criticism. Sony fanboys here could learn from them

SONY is doomed.

Who cares, the writer of the article (Matt Buchanan) is a certified troll. His known for saying outrageous thing's so that the site could get hit's and his done some dicky thing's in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote the article before E3 and just touched it up before posting.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I admit that my favorite company is Nintendo but I always had the current sony system and I have no problem stating that PS2 and PS1 were some of the best systems we'll ever play, now all of us that are gamers must accept that something definetly went wrong with the PS3, I mean in my case I noticed that I bought 86 Ps2 games during It's lifespan, for the Ps 3 i have bought five games in 3 years (Metal G.sS, Little big planet, God of war 3, Folklore and Soul Caliber) I dont know why eventually I leaned towards the 360 more (considering i had to buy a second system after 2 RROD) maybe it was the achievements, the cooler, bigger Xbox live community, whatever it is I play either my Wii or 360 everyday, I haven't touched my Ps3 since i beat god of war 3, It's sad really. I always have had handhelds im on my 3rd Ds I never even bothered with the PSP. I guess Sony just lost me as a gamer and the weird thing is I don't even know why.

100 hundred years of research has pointed that the product at the highest end often has the fewest consumers. What's ironic is that Sony was founded based on the opposite. It built it's good old Sony Glory based on selling satisfactory products to the mass market and disrupting the kings.

Why would consumer behavior ever change? satisfactory at the right price always wins. "it's not about being better. It's about being good enough and being there first." Bill Gates from Silicon Valley or something like that :P

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Another paid journalist IMHO....

I thought their breed is already extinct....I guess there still are some left awaiting extermination.

Will the PS3 be the first and most successful multi-million selling piracy & hack-free console of all time?

For the record, I think the most relevant point is the one about 3D.

I, for one, really enjoy good 3D and think its very immersive.  Sony obviously thinks the same, but their motives on pushing 3D gaming are likely more about pushing 3DTV's.  That taints things quite a bit, similar to how they used gaming to push Blu Ray (though that trojan horse has paid off in some ways).  Its obvious that 3D at home is not ready for mainstream market penetration, so this focus and emphasis is premature.  3D IS the future.  But trying to push it gamers just to sell TV's is just more proof that they don't have their gaming audience's best interest in mind.

Hey contrerversy works, u cant blame them for that
