The reasons this year is amazing (for me):

LittleBigPlanet 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Donkey Kong Country Returns (kinda)
God of War III (kinda)
Vanquish (if it's as awesome as it looks)
Alan Wake
Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII

The reasons next year will be amazing:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake
Kirby's Epic Yarn
The Last Guardian
Metal Gear Solid: Rising
Portal 2
Killzone 3
Uncharted 3 (presumably)

2011 wins.

If we are talking personal preferences, 1994 destroys every other year in videogames ever.

Super Street Fighter 2

Mortal Kombat 2

Sonic 3

Sonic & Knuckles

Super Metroid

Donkey Kond Country

Warcraft

Earth Worm Jim

Final Fantasy III

etc...

2010:
Super Street Fighter IV

Mortal Kombat 9

Sonic 4 Episode 1

Metroid: Other M

Donkey Kong Country Returns

World of Warcraft (new expansion)

Earthworm Jim HD

Final Fantasy XIII

Yes, and they all exist today cause of the great games made in 1994. :)

No offense, but of all the games you've listed in the OP, I'm interested in Gears of War 3 and the 3DS (though Mortal Kombat may get a buy from me, just for nostalgia). How does Pokemon Black/White not make the 2011 list? I'm offended!

This year I've bought Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, and Pokemon SoulSilver.

Still left for me this year: Halo: Reach, Fable III, CoD Black Ops, Fallout: New Vegas, AC: Brotherhood, DQ IX, and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.

Right now, it's no contest for me, 2010 > 2011, but that appears to be just because I'm interested in more third party stuff than you are.

EDIT: Dead Space 2, MGS Rising, and Rage all look nice too.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I'm not too interested in Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet and the blergh of shooters in the rest of 2010

2011 on the other hand carries all the great sequals:

Killzone

Motorstorm

Batman

Infamous

Portal

Deus Ex looks really interesting too from its trailer

My lists were by no means complete though, I was just sampling the awesomesauce.

I really wish I could get more people on the Guild Wars 2 wagon, it really looks like one hell of a game. An MMO where the world changes depending on player actions, with a personal story made to rival those of singleplayer RPGs. All without a monthly fee. Screw The Old Republic, this is the game that will shake the foundations of the MMO world, and actually bring MMOs up to date.

Make no mistake though, 2010 is still way up there. 2011 just overtook it.

I've only bought two games this year ( Final Fantasy 13 and Red Dead Redemption ) and I'm probably going to get 3 - 4 more. Out of all the games annouced for 2011, I'm interested in Brink, Rage, Infamous 2, and Killzone 3. So right now :

2010 > 2011

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

2010

FFXIII, Heavy Rain, WKC, Yakuza 3, LBP2, Vanquish, Mafia II, MGS peacwalker, KH:BBS, RoF, Ar Tonelico 3.

2011

The Last Guardian, Killzone 3, inFamous 2, Uncharted 3, Sorcery, Silent HIll 8 (lol), 3rd birthday, God eater, Yakuza 4, Pokemon Black and White, WKC 2,MGS: Rising? Neptune? heroes on the Move? Agito? 3ds games. 2011>>2010 and IF versus makes it next year 2011>>>>2010 for me.

When does Kirby hit?

No mention of Starcraft 2 or Civilization V in the whole thread yet?

These alone will make 2010 quite a bit harder to match, IMO...
