I'm with EncodedNybble.  I'm not as pumped to buy this one as I was the original.  Might rent it, though.

I just don't understand this. Don't you want to support SP for creating a sequel to a game you presumably liked ?

WHY ? You've only heard him say about 2 lines. You don't know what he's like...None of us do.


If he doesn't like what the companies done in the sequal, why support it?

I thought the VA in inFAMOUS was great and he did have personality (this one might too, who knows).  The animation could have been better but that's not really the issue.

 

If they cleaned up the animation, improved graphics etc, that's understandable.  I mean they changed mario from SMB -> Mario Galaxy but it is still Mario.  He still had the same basic shape, hat, etc.  They made him a little more round, but overall, still mario and anyone could tell.

 

If I showed you a screen shot of this "new" Cole without telling you it was Infamous 2 and the screen shot didn't involve lightning, and asked "Which character is this from a PS3 exclusive?"  I doubt you'd say Cole McGraph.  That is the issue, it's just not the same character.  He may be a better character, who knows, but it's not the same character and that is a large disconnect to me.  I preordered the original, I don't think I'll even buy this one (I'm serious) unless they give some reason plot wise (that isn't lame) why the look changed.

Get over it. For some reason, people hate change. Look at the hate on VGC 3.0, which has now grown on me. Everytime Facebook changes, people form groups to get it back to what it was.

That is just crazy. This isn't mario where no on cares about the story because Nintendo never bothers to put one in. inFamous had a story that many people enjoyed. To see the main character--the key part of that story-- completely altered in the sequal is a major turn off. If GoW3 started with Kratos suddenly in Egypt with yellow paint instead of red, a full head of hair and going after the titans for some reason the dev's will not explain to you, how would you feel about that? I'm guessing you wouldn't care because they're not changing the gameplay... or does GoW's story matter to you?

If gameplay is all that matters to you then what difference would it make if SuckerPunch suddenly understood why people were pissed about the character change and switched Cole back? Heck, why do you bother to acknowledge those that complain about the change if it means nothing to you. Furthermore, why do you compliment his new look? BECAUSE IT MATTERS.

People become fans of something for many different reasons. There are members on this site that care about nothing but gameplay. There are members here that won't even touch an RPG unless it has a brilliant story. Heck, there's a guy I can think of that praises his games based on how the characters looks... Not everyone sees things your way.

This post was annoying to read...

1) The setting has changed. Go do some reasearch... it's a completely new City.
2) My comment that you bold was not just about the change and whether it was needed to be done but explaining the change. I don't remember much negative feedback about Cole at all when the game released...
3) Where have I said the new Cole was horrible? I said I don't like the change. In the first set of magazine scans they confirmed they weren't just changing his looks but also his personality. Cole will be much different... Cole fit his story PERFECTLY. This means we can expect a some significant changes to the story in the game other wise it wouldn't work with the new Cole. For those that loved the first, they have good reason to be wary of the sequal now. 
4) What boycott?

1. Would you have liked running around in the same city ? The change of setting isn't drastic like from Greece to Egypt

2. If Sucker Punch decided to change Cole, I'm sure they did it with hopes of improving the game. We should wait and see...and not get worked up about one trailer.

3. That was a comment for everyone, not just you. I don't mind if they slightly alter his personality because he was a little boring in Infamous 1 anyway. We have yet to see whether the new Cole is "YAY!" or "NAY!". I was purely talking from a looks perspective when I said I don't mind him.

I didn't say "OMG hes so awesome !"

So far, we know NOTHING about the story, so stop over-reacting.

4. People saying they won't be buying inFAMOUS over one trailer, and they don't know jackshit about anything yet ?

There are plently of characters that look like him (this is a picture of baldish macho game characters btw, so some may not look like cole..not sure why Kratos and the L4D guy is there though)

1) Ummm... Yes. Actually, I would. If they also expanded and improved the City I'd like that but if it was the same exact City I'd still be happy. The change in City doesn't bother me at all though.

2) And again, like i've said in this thread and others: I hope the do a good job. inFamous is my favorite PS3 game and I want it to have a great sequal. I just dislike what I know of the sequal so far regarding powers [Ice? wtf...]. story presentation [in-game cutscenes as well as comic book style.I would have loved it if they had just stuck with comic book. Presentation was one thing inFamous did flawlessly, imo] and the main character. As you can see in my sig, I've given up hope for them changing Cole back and I just hope the game turns out great now. Still, this doesn't mean I can't voice my thoughts on the changes. I also don't appreciate how others that try to do the same get slammed for it.

3) Over reacting how? I'm pretty sure I'm not... I think you're over reacting at others when you tell them to stop overreacting to the changes. I think you're overracting when you say lines like "So stop the "Boycott inFAMOUS 2" bullshit and lets see what is revealed in the future." and "People saying they won't be buying inFAMOUS over one trailer, and they don't know jackshit about anything yet" when know one seems to be doing that. I see a few people saying they'll rent first, but that's by no means a boycott... it's called being cautious with your money and based on what I know of the game right now I'd do the same when the game releases.

Cole had low hair like quite a few characters but I don't see how a low cut makes a person generic. Cole doesn't have the physique to fit into this stereotype. He's not "macho" as you put it. Kratos is there just because his hair's low like everyone else and he has that "bad-ass" persona... I guess he counts as generic. If he doesn't, i don't see how riddick and a couple of these guys do...

To be honest, Force unleashed and infamous look similar. Other than that, none of these guys seem to have similar appearances. This picture's really stretching it... I mean, they've got Altair here and you don't even see that guy's face for the most part...

Exactly.  And really, am I going to care what's happening to a character I don't like?  No.  I don't like his look (do we really need 2 PS3 series featuring Nathan Drake) or his voice (again, sounds so forced).  And those are the thoughts that will be going through my mind as I was playing this game.  Especially after having such a good experience with the orginal game/Cole.  And I don't like some of the other changes you were mentioning, either. 

I'm not starting any boycott, but I most likely won't be buying the game, either.
