Forums - General - Barack Obama compares oil spill to 9/11

9/11 was one of the worst things to happen to the U.S. in history. Not because of the death/destruction, but the fact that it twisted many Americans into some of the most over-dramatic, frightened, and vicious people on the planet. This thread shows that perfectly. He's comparing it based on the impact the oil spill could potentially have on the government's energy policy, similar to the change in defense policy after 9/11. Yes, 9/11 was a very tragic event. However, this is still a perfectly fine comparison and I don't exactly see people getting teary eyed over the Korean War or anything.

Bohpal would be a better comparison. Except in that case the USA fucked over the Indians without paying $20 billion compensation. Amazing how it's one rule for one country and another rule for another....Actually it's not really, it has been happening for years.

How exactly does this thread show that?

All that from that.

Not that it wasn't a poorly worded post, but that's still quite the reaction. I mean, gee. He makes him sick from that post alone?

Wow, people need to shut the hell up, honestly, there is nothing at all wrong with his comparison, its actually quite a good one with how he put it.

No matter what context 9/11 is used in, a lot of people will be offended.

That's why I'm confused why he would use it.

People need to move on, 9/11 is now an important part of US history, its obvious that comparison's will be made, people just can't let themselves be so sensitive on the subject anymore.

This is practically an issue of "Too Soon?", and no, it isn't.

It was a fair, logical comparison and people need to suck it up and stop over reacting IMO.

Tell that to the face's of the people who lost friends/family and loved ones on 9/11.....

people need to move on?......tell that to the people who are still grieving ..you make me sick

What about the families of those who die in the War in Iraq every damn day?

There are comparisons to the war day in and day out, its common.

I'm just sick of people getting singled out for mentioning 9/11, yes people suffered, yes people died, but what, are we supposed to sweep it under the rug and act like it never happened? Thats not the way you deal with things, like I said 9/11 is now an important part of American History, a major one, and it will be referenced, and people shouldn't over-react when it is.

The thing is dude the reason shit like this happens is because you never remember history. if we did shit like this wouldnt happen since you know the saying History repeats its self.

TELL that to the tens of thousands inocents iraqies that have died cause of usa war, which is more like genocide since all the proves to invade iraq in first place where fake. most of usa ppl sensitive bout 9/11 dont give a s*** about that , they only care about american ppl  killed in 9/11 and the 3000 usa soldiers that have died in iraq, but do they care about the genocide bush did? i think not
