Forums - Sony - LMAOSOA Valve Now Says PS3 Is Most Open Console

Mods were available on unreal for ps3. I hope valve gets some stuff like that up on ps3, mainly custom maps and what not.

I believe this was one of the real big surprises on E3 myself.  Not so much Portal 2 and the games, but Steamworks coming to PS3 and what that implies.

Sony really scored an interesting change here, with Valve now supporting PS3, MS losing another PC/360 for PC focused developer to full multi-platform status and the strange thought of one network service - PSN - hosting another - Steamworks.

I'm going to watch this with interest.  One of my preferences for PS3/PSN vs 360/Live has been that in principle (unless Sony change it) PSN is more open to free mods, maps, etc. from the community that Live (at least so much as I understand it and based on when UT3 launched) but I've been very dissapointed to see this go nowhere.

If Valve patch up the Orange Box port, get L4D onto the PS3 and use Steamworks via PSN to deliver free additional content I'd be happy to see this aspect of PC gaming I miss from consoles getting some real support on one.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Not cool if LFD comes because my 360 is quickly becoming the Halo and Gears console with nothing else exclusive that interests me.

L4D & Mass Effect will come to PS3. What microsoft should have done this gen is at least own the IP they publish like Gears of War or Mass effect.

They may own ME IP for publishing or have it otherwise tied up (MS and EA have never really clarified that) but there is no way Valve would let them own the IP.

I'm glad Valve is supporting the PS3.

They have always been one of the best developers in my eyes and I never understood why they disliked the PS3 so much.

And now they're doing all this stuff with it... It's just fucking awesome.

Noone on the PS3 cares. Everyone with a PS3 only hates Valve, their games will bomb, period, comma. Actually this sounds like more a making up process than anything of substance. Oh and Steamworks itself encompasses a whole range of minor/inconsequential things all the way up to major features. Just throwing down the name Steamworks is meaningless without a better context.

Tease.

I'm going to bet against you on this one.  The majority of PS3 owners won't have any conception of Valve one way or another and the core that do seem to have been hugely molified by seeing Gabe himself apparently eating humble pie in person.

Valve I believe are very, very good at knowing how to play gaming communities, and I don't doubt for a second they hadn't thought through the impression given to the harcore gaming community by Gabe himself trundling out and making the comments he did.

Why are you making a bet against me and then supporting my side?

In any case, yes Valve is very good at smooching the hardcore gamer communities. Case in point was their derailing of the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott by flying the leaders over to the HQ and making sweet sweet bribery with them.

Tease.

It was the funniest part of e3 for me And its great news. I will be playing Portal 2 on PC possibly, but if it expands on more platforms, then its just better to gamers

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Bring L4D series over to PS3 and all is forgiven Gabe =P
