I don't see why Microsoft would encourage players to sit down to showcase their games at E3 when the point is to get them to be active, and engage themselves with Kinect.
I agree, IF they are showing them a casual game that is obviously designed for a person in a standing position. Now, if the demo was for a person persuing the movie selections on Live, wouldn't it make PERFECT sense to have the person doing the demo, seated in a nice comfy sofa seat? Kind of sells that part of the functionality as opposed to standing up. Yes, we can say voice recognition is "optimised" for persuing a movie selection but don't go doing this "Minority Report" style functionality if is it's not perfect. I want to be seated to do this.
Forza...same thing, in real life i walk around a car to look at it, i don't sit down and magically float around the sides to check out the fenders, and tires.
Already mentioned, but once you get into the car, is it natural to stand when driving? In fact, is it natural to not even have the tactile feel of a wheel and the resistance of the pedals? For optimised driving, you would want a wheel and pedal for the obvious emulation that this has with real life. This same rule applies to any motion control setup. Just don't use it. Did I see Halo3 with Kinect?
To go as far as saying Kinect will ONLY support games that you stand while playing is ridiculous, especially since that's not confirmed, it's more of a rumor as it stands (see what i did there).
Nobody is really saying this. It appears we are all just looking for a definitive answer which has been strangly missing from any official source and yet the speculation continues. The "specualtion" is far from debunked.
In any case some games will require you to stand because "depending on the game or experience" it's warranted. I wouldn't play Wii Fit sitting down, so why would i for Fitness Evolved?
This is obvious, but at the same time, there are many fitness positions that start and are performed in a sitting style position. It will be interesting to see how this works.
Obviously Kinect will shine with applications/games that a motion control of it's style is suited to. I just don't think it or any full motion body tracking controller is suited to ALL styles and genre's of game. Kinect clearly seems to be aimed at the casual game market. I doubt any Halo game would utilise it seriously.
The traditional game controller is probably here to stay. WiiMote and Move are simply an "inbetween" paradigm between a traditional hand controller and Kinect. In that respect, WiiMote and Move probably have more versatility however Kinect probably has more specific and more radical applications which can be a great thing.
One thing I know, If I was playing any Forza or GT game, give me a wheel and pedal any day. Move aside Move and Kinect. Both are just gimmicks for a car game. But, by all means use the camera tracking for something practical like head direction tracking when in a cockpit view.
