Forums - Nintendo - Could anyone really kill Nintendo?

I remember during the GameCube era lots of people said that Sony was going to kill Nintendo. Today Nintendo doesn't even consider Sony its primary competition instead naming Apple its new competitor. So if the PS2 couldn't kill Sony infact Nintendo turned the largest profit out of the three during the GCN era I believe. So with PSP dead in the water to DS and 3DS on its way Sony seems to have thrown in the towel for the handheld market.

Could anyone really bring down Nintendo now, what are they worth like 8-billion by now. Even if they managed to loose like 3-generations in a row at Microsoft or Sega's losses 500-mill a generation, then it would take 16-generations to kill Nintendo.

I think Nintendo is invincible they are the greatest game company on earth as shown by this weeks E3. Could anybody ever truly take on Nintendo? Can anyone even call themselves a worthy competitor of Nintendo. I mean seriously while Sony looses money on every unit sold and so does Microsoft usually for years after their consoles hit the market Nintendo has never lost a dime on their hardware.

Can anyone compete with Nintendo and actually give them a run for their money or will Nintendo be around 300-years from now?

Nintendo's business model, ensured that they would be around for a long time. Also as long as Nintendo had the handheld market, Pokemon and made money off their consoles. They could be dead last for the next 7 generations and not even flinch.

Also the PSP is not dead. Also Nintendo should be careful about ignoring and underestimating Sony. Sony and Microsoft did it to them  and it would suck if it came around to bite them in the ass.

It wouldn't exist. Simply put if Nintendo never came to the scene in the 80s it wouldn't exist. Without Nintendo, Playstation doesn't exist.  Now if Ninty became a software company after the GCN era, then it would be a different story.

No it wouldn't, if Nintendo went software after GCN, the gaming industry would be collapsing as we type, if it hadn't already crashed

A sad, sad competition on who's got the nicest graphics and the biggest budget.

Nintendo is just here to slap some faces and make people realize that a great game just need to transcent imagination and the limits of realism.

everybody always gets to involed in these competition things. All a company cares about is that they can make a profit. Wile Xbox 360 and Ps3 is very competitive towards each other constantly selling consoles at a loss, they still make money off their games. DS and PSP isn't near as competitive as they both make profits. The only thing that will make them not make another PSP is piracy, because that is where they lose money.  Unless a console or handheld wont sale at all, they are not going to quit because they are making a profit. PSP has proved to do well with ove 50 mil being sold. DS is far superior in games and sales but doesnt mean sony is dropping out. Btw don't say apple and nintendo are being competitive. Apple makes mini games, not games. And they are not gaming platforms, just something that can play games as an accessory. Imo, nintendo will always win in handhelds due to their games fit better on handhelds, but its not gna stop other companies from making handhelds.

Could anyone kill Nintendo?

No, not anyone, because you must be really smart for that... Or just Nintendo themself if they do too much mistakes in a row (looking at you Sega).

With their handhelds, software and now wii, they have a really huge treasure chest. Also they know what video games are for: entertainment and fun. In opposite of their actual competitors that speaks only on games budgets, polycounts, visual effects and other dick measuring.

MS and sony are not there to deliver fun, MS is there to put windows on the living room and entertainment via xbox and sony to sell blue-ray, hd tv and now 3d tv. As their focus is different from the one of Nintendo, it will hard for them to rape nintendo software.

Food for thought: for the fanboys saying nintendo had the weaker console. it only happen this generation, the 2 previous one they have the  strongest and Sony, the weakest. Also note how the strongest console never ended first, on the home and on the portable front.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
