Forums - Sony - PS move Pricing announced

Fail.

$70 for full controller.

$30 for 1st party lower level games is ok.

$30 for navigator....

$400 for PS3 bundle... seriously?

$100 for full pack w/eye and game is ok.

These prices, like kinect's, are simply too much to gain support from the expanded audience.

In fact, Kinect has a better chance due to all the additional entertainment content as well as that dance game. Move is literally a Wii knockoff with Wii ports for a whole lot more. Does Sony really think HD is that big of a deal? Have they learned nothing over the last few years?

actually they are ok... but could cheaper, the good thing is it iwll get cheaper over time especially if hardware pick ups.

remenber to have  1-1 u have to buy a motion plus for each control too that add ups price.

and some people may have the ps3 eye already. it may be just 49$

from what i seen you are tight on money u shouldn't be buying any of this things anyway.

also u aren't foced to buy the navigator

Im really struggling to see the value proposition here. It just doesn't seem like a good deal really. $130 is the minimum cost which doesn't even give full functionality in all Move titles and yet all that does is give access to Wii Sports clones and the ability to substitute your right thumb for your wrist if you don't count using a DS3 as a viable alternative to the navigator.

Why pay close to Wii prices to access a weaker library when you can pretty much pay about as much and grab a Wii instead? Even if someone had a PS3 and no Wii, it'd still make more sense to get a Wii instead of Move.

Because unlike Wii there will be real games for it, you won't have Mario packed into every other game title released on the plastform, and graphics won't put you in danger of losing your eye from pixelosis seen on the screen.

That's before we go into "little" things like included BR player or better online gaming.

I'm not sure if move will steal a lot of Wii customers but it certainly removes a lot of reasons which ps3 owner could have to buy second console.

Also last time people argued about Total cost of ownership it was in xbox vs $400 ps3 fat case. Looking back to it we can clearly see that having tons of hidden additional costs with lower entry barrier is better than more complete package on the mass market. Price tag for move is hefty but you won't be spending it all at once.

Completely right about the 360 vs. PS3.  Many on the web, myself included, were always showing how the PS3 was actually cheaper than the 360.  Even when the PS3 was $100 more than the 360.  However, Joe Public doesn't care about that.  All they see is the initial price tag.  One of the reasons the Wii was such a hit.  And why the 360 was out selling the PS3 in late '08/early '09.  But, as soon as the initial price was the same, people saw the value of the PS3, and it has been outselling the 360 WW since.

And as others have pointed out, these prices aren't very different from those of the Wii-motes, yet people still buy a boat load of those.  So when the Move and Natal are released, most people will see is a $150 or more camera, as opposed to a $100 bundle with a camera, controller, a demo disc, and a full game.  Definitely not saying Move will sell boat loads, but I think it will have the better chance.

I'll answer you both at once since you're agreeing with each other.

Price is irrelevant as a metric on its own. Value is a factor of price, so whilst price is still important its only in relation to value. The Wii has significantly more value than the PS3 as it stands right now at this point in time. I don't care if Reggie snuck into your house and shoved a Wii up your butt so you had to forever poop into a colostomy bag, your personal opinions of the Wii are irrelevant in a wider context. People value the Wiis software library on average over and above the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Wii has a massive head start on its library which the PS3 and Move are incredibly unlikely to overtake within the space of the next 3 years. Whilst Sony has to fight inertia, Nintendo is continuing to release compelling software and incase you missed it they had the best E3 this time around so that gap on day one isn't getting any smaller.

Tease.

ok, what new Move experiences were show that are not already on Wii?

I just watched the Move trailer again. There were a few games that I believe are not even possible on Wii, at least without severe limitations:

The fight lights out: Not quite possible on Wii, because Wii cannot track the position of your hands and because of the very short cable between Nunchuk and Wiimote. Could be a lot more realistic than any Wii fighting game
Start the party: Not at all possible on Wii because of the missing camera. Very similar to EyeToy, which I think is great
Singstar dance: Don't know if they are doing it, but on Playstation Move the Singstar microphones would not be necessarily because of the microphone(s) built into the camera. Furthermore the camera itself can and will probably be used for things that simply cannot be done on Wii
Eyepet with move: Not possible on Wii because of the missing camera

As for most other games (sports games, shooters, swordplay etc.), there are indeed similar games on Wii. However I would definitely prefer playing them in great HD graphics if I had the choice - who wouldn't?

All in all, I think the pricing is okay and I'm definitely going to buy Move. I think Move is the most versatile of all three motion controlled systems, it can do everything the Wiimote can do and apart from the the distance sensor, it has everything Kinect has as well (camera and microphone).

Harsh!  But true!

And kinda funny to boot...

Sony have said many times the PS3 if a console for when new gamers want to expand and seek 'the next step' or however it was put.

Sony also said that people would be willing to get two jobs to buy a PS3 without any games. We all know how that worked out....

The expanded audience will upgrade when Nintendo offers a NEW experience.

Hey, I got 2 jobs.    Ok, that's a lie.  But, I guess one of the new gaming experiences on Move that's not on the Wii is augmented reality games.  Like Move Party.  Plus, I'm sure there will be tons of different uses with the tech, especially with Sony behind the games.

And you do realize Nintendo isn't always on top right?  3 gens ago, they had an all out war with Sega, and kept switching places of 1st and 2nd.  It wasn't until the end of that gen that Nintendo came out on top.  And for the last 2 gens, Sony has ruled the 1st spot.  So, it isn't always Nintendo that people "upgrade" to.  The fact is, with everyone trying out motion gaming, Nintendo is going to have to bring much more than Wii Again next gen.  I have no doubt they can, but who knows what the other companies have in store for next gen.  The next 2 E3's are going to be really interesting to watch.

I'm not saying they'll upgrade on Nintendo because its Nintendo, I know history. However, the expanded audience is familiar with Wii and satisfied with its offerings. HD is not enough to upgrade, therefore it won't be a upgrade to PS3/Move. As Nintendo just demonstrated with the 3DS, its next home consoles will be a serious change again and that will then offer the real incentive to buy something that is actually new and different that what is already offered.

True anything based a lot on the camera or hindered by the cord would make Move slightly better. However, the camera has existed for many years now without any effect on Wii userbase and I doubt a more realistic boxing game will pull people away.

You're buying Move because you own a PS3 and like the idea. That makes sense and price wise isn't a bad consideration. For somone without a PS3 and who is not a core gamer or a big techie person (i.e. the mass market) the Wii is the best option as they will be considered essentially the less a bluray player for significantly less money. (especially if they already own a Wii)

30 bucks for PS EYE is win.

I don't have a PS Eye.  If I wanted an introduction to the Playstation move I would buy the Move Bundle  for $99.

Personally, I think I'd want the full experience which would require the Move bundle ($99), the navigator ($29) and an extra move controller (49).  So my initial investment would be $180 tax.

I would pay that when the games were right.  Which isn't right now, for me.

That being said, Sony is going to market the bundle as their main offering and so the price you will see for the move is $99 I'd guess.
