Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft conference: Press not happy

We all know the man-children bitching about MS right now will forget this when the holiday rush happens. Game makers are trying to expand the market and it's to be expected that they're going to dedicate sections of a TRADE SHOW to things such as these. I'm not one to pull strawman on people, but Craig is really not being a properly mature representative of the gaming sub-culture here

Yes... insightful journalism and considered opinion from a guy that uses rapper hand gestures and wears his baseball cap backwards.

excellent.

dick.

Wow so the fact he uses "rapper hand gestures" and wears a hat you trivialize his OPINION? Talk about ignoring substance. And calling him a dick truly shows youre no classier or in any better position that him, so pot kettle here, chief.

Its obvious the conference wasnt well received folks, just move along, it happens, when Sony was imploding th emost annoying things were elists of the "up and coming" It was just a bad, boring conference that wasnt entertaining, wasnt engaging, had cringing moments and offered really nothing work talking about besides Your Shape and Harmonix dance game.

It's really okay, it happens sometime, not every company can hit a home run everytime, it was bad. Accept it.

G4TV was quite critical of them. They were ranting after the show. Couldn't blame them though.

Edge doesn't like too.

And about Natal: "Based on today’s demos, the true appeal of Microsoft's 'full body controller' lies, as many will have suspected, in everything but the games."

They make a good point. That alone could be a huge selling point. Combined with ESPN it could be huge! Xbox Replay ftw.

OT: I'm not sure why having to have a surprise announcement in the presentation is still relevant. There are so many leaks these days it's almost impossible to keep surprises a secret.

Overall I thought they did what they needed to do. It was done well.

Maybe the press, who are mostly hardcore gamers, are feeling the future of gaming moving away from the games they grew up playing, and moving toward games for newer and/or mass market gamers.

I know that the day of single player RPGs is getting close to being done. MMOs are the future for RPGs.

(Maybe I'm just a little mad at the press after reading responses in live feeds to certain conferences. Some of the reporters have no respect for the developers or have a clue what gamers other then themselves want. )

I can only imagine the reaction of this "game journalist" had Nintendo had a similar presser.

Remember, he is inclined to "like" Microsoft.

To be honest, it seemed to me that Microsoft spent a lot of time on its new toy and not much on other efforts. And the fact it talked about everything but price means that it has some selling to do.

The games shown tended to be either known or expected. The ESPN deal essentially is bringing a version of ESPN 3 to the console -- which means that many a person already has it on their computer from their ISP. The slim was predicted/leaked.

I just wish someone had put an "NSFW" tag on the video.

Remember, not everything that Microsoft does turns out well and not everything that is gushed over works out (remember last year -- everyone hailed "Game Room").

But th ething you have to understand is that the crowd youre referring to, the "casual", dont pay their bills. They dont frequent blogs, websites, ad dollars.....thats like asking Fox News to endorse president Obama, these journalists are employees of a company, and theyre employees of a company that caters to a specific audience, what NEEDS to happen is there needs to be a company or organization perhaps who reports and blogs and dictates for a casual gamer, however is there a market for that?

Im not so sure we should expect our gaming websites to morph, they cater to "us", we need NEW websites and journalists to cater to the shift in demographic. Its tricky, thats for sure.

Yeah, mistakes do happen and your not going to have a MASSIVE E3 every year. But it was a dissappointment for many as MSFT usually is all about the hardcore.

i don't give a damn about critics and so called game journalists - they are butthurt cause MS didn't make all Kinect launch titles as "hardcore" titles, but more mainstream casual oriented titles.

silicon, i wouldn't call press as hardcore gamers. i mean those are the people who glorifies Call of Duty dumbed down gameplay, hates Wii Music or any other type of game that require patient and devotion to the game, hates Just Dance because its singleplayer is weak and there's no unlockables in that PARTY game and call games released on nintendo platforms as casual shovelware cause it's not in HD and doesn't have gore, brown colors or realistic graphics.

i was happy with what MS showed and was really impressed by Kinect especially Your Shape which clearly showed what this tech is capable of. i actually liked launch titles they presented and i'm willing to buy few of them if Kinect will have the right price(100$ with a game).

Would have helped Microsofts case if they fufilled their promise and released things for everyone and not just for casuals.

Wagram, but there were. though MS didn't show them properly. Joyride, Sonics Free Riders(guess it's sequel to Sonic Riders), Star Wars game, Child of Eden are core games. i think people really forget what core game is(right now i can see that anything that remotely speak "kiddy" from graphics means either "casual" or "shovelware" to all those pseudo hardcore gamers).
