I know a lot of people who are not Nintendo fanboys or anything and think the Wii is the only truly "next-gen" system. After all, what did the 360 and PS3 do that was new? No difference in control whatsoever (if you look at the previous generations, every one had a difference in control from the previous generation, and the Sixaxis doesn't count since virtually every game that uses it sucks in that aspect. The only one I can think of that doesn't is Motorstorm). The only difference is the power. They're just better versions of the last gen.

Meanwhile, the Wii is also a better version of the last gen. Granted, not as much better than the PS3 or 360, but it also throws in another thing - yet another true evolution in controls. And a very big one, too.

I'm not saying this is my belief. I think they're all "next gen" in their own ways, but you have to think about it. Every generation has always done something different than just looking better. The fact that the Wii didn't do that as much as the competitors is just one aspect that the Wii lacks out of a dozen that it flourishes.

New controls > everything else?

If Wii has 4 to 5 years lifetime, I think it is still very successful already!!

The post at top is really pointless... Being a casual gamer who wouldn't surf the web for gaming news, but there is mass media which advertise games that could draw their attention!! I am sure they will be attracted by all those innovative gameplay, such as WiiFit...

From time to time, Nintendo gives us surprises which can easily draw much much attention...

I hope Wii will end its lifetime in 4 to 5 years, and start a totally new thing again in around 2011.

Well, when "new controls" are the only actually "new" thing brought forward, if you think of it that way, then yes.

Smalvct: Nintendo has already stated that they don't like the idea of the repetitive "four-to-six year" generation cycle. The Wii will have a far longer life-cycle (although that in no way means that there won't be a new console released in 2011; it just won't be the Wii's successor).

Welcome to last year.

Come on now....we're about to venture into 2008 and people are still talking about how the Wii is a fad. Sad.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Did Hus write this?

By the looks of everything Nintendo Wii cannot be considered a failure because the console will outsell its last two predecessors, and is the only profitable system inside the market. The only way Nintendo Wii can now be considered a disappointment is if it does meet people’s expectations, which is an outrages amount. I see Wii beeing a succes no matter what, rather the console sells 70 million or even 100 million.

As long as the Wii outsells its predecessor it's all good.  I hope it even manages to outsell the NES at least.
