Forums - Nintendo - Big Third Party to launch Wii Peripheral with major support

As promised, here are some predictions for E3, which is kicking off today and getting into full swing next week. Let us start with what I know. A big publisher will present a very promising peripheral for Wii. You might think that all sensible peripherals have been done, but not quite. This one could become quite useful. And, surprisingly, the publisher has managed to secure the support of other publishers for it, I am told. So this one will not gather dust as soon as that ´Tony Hawk Ride´ board, they hope. I will only give you a cryptic hint: the peripheral will enable some seminal DS games to be adapted to Wii better than would otherwise have been possible. A cryptic hint, like I said. Anything dawning on you?

And before people question the source, I can tell you right now that you can bank on this guy

Dammit Puffy! The possibilities swimming in my mind are endless. How am i supposed to get some sleep tonight?

How technical is your game?

I question the source nonetheless.

Big Japanese or Western third party?

Also, reading the rest of your blog-hasn't it already been said by Miyamoto and Aonuma that swordplay will be a major aspect of Zelda Wii, hence the use of motion plus? Or are you suggesting that aside from the sword, there will be a form of vitality sensor enabled combat?

Seminal DS titles needs more definition, really. There have been a lot of those, of wild varieties.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Ok, im gonna guess.  A design tablet that recognizes the wiimote so it allows you to draw stuff (kinda like Mario Paint).

Image is only for demonstration purposes.

edit> its not likely that it is voice recognition, because Wii Speak already exists, and i dont know what else the DS does which is applicable for a Peripheral on Wii.

2ndedit> Ok, could it be related to Virgin medias appearance at the show? Mobile phone integration? (Nokia, hmm) Now im thinking about the potential of a 2nd screen too, which would be easily adaptable for a design tablet, or a mobile phone.

POSSIBILITIES!!!!!!

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

A touchscreen that "talks" with the Wiimote - would fit the peripheral's description, but I have a hard time imagining how it could work from a usability point of view - I mean, when I use the touchscrreen, I have to take my eyes off the TV screen, right?
