Forums - Microsoft - Official Microsoft E3 2010 Press Conference Thread

I am wondering what has happened to Microsoft, The new sku is just a reskinned 360 with wifi.... lame

But if they keep the other sku's in production a core 360 for $150 is insanely cheap and is the news of the conference imo.

Sure if you sit kids down in front of the conference and show them the tiger, they will want one but most people have been able to do all of that stuff on the wii for years.

The reason the wii has sold almost half of the consoles this gen is because the other half of the market has been split between the PS3 and 360, with Microsofts conference I now believe they are somewhat giving up on the hardcore market.

If sony comes out like they should tomorrow, then they will have a much larger portion of that hardcore market automatically thanks to Microsoft.

Sony has got to be happy that Kinect is only launching with a comparable lineup to what Sony had at GDC.

I was totally open to Natals possibilities and honestly thought Microsoft would hit it out of the park with amazing new exclusives, integration with hardcore games and with the announcement of a slim.

None of this happened.

to sum it up, MS news is as follows;

ESPN deal, pricecut to existing sku's

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

So now:

- Motion controls are awesome

- Casual games are welcome

I guess the Wii is "cool" now :D

Haha yeah.. The only thing I liked about this conference is that NOBODY can POSSIBLY diss Nintendo's conferences anymore for being too "casual" focused. Nintendo would have to do A LOT to top this in terms of casual focus. They'd have to like, have a bunch of todlers on stage playing "Imagine Babiez", or have an old man playing "Wii Nursing Home" or something.

This confernece made Nintendo's 2008 look like gold.

I wouldn't go that far. The real issue wasn't that it was so casual focused. The issue was that pretty much every game they showed for Kinect was a Wii game without a controller.

Oh, and everyone saying "My daughter/wife/grandmother loved the look of Kinect", are they the ones who are going to buy Kinect?

I think for all of the households that ALREADY have an Xbox, odds are good that if there's a daughter/wife/grandmother in the house, Kinect would be a likely purchase.

For all those households without out one, no. Assuming the Kinect kits are $150 on top of a $300 console, no. Everyone will not be buying this. That is simply not accessible enough. If that's the pricing scenario, most of those with casual interest who said "yes, I'd like to play that!" will end up saying "no, I won't pay that much."

And the latter are clearly the people to whom Microsoft is trying to appeal here.

Then they'll have to do some creative bookkeeping so they can sell Xbox/Kinect bundles for under $300, because the casual family audience they're trying to appeal to won't pay well over $400.

It's still possible MS sells the kits for under $100, but I really think if they were going to go aggressive with the pricing angle, they would have most definitely announced the price with much fanfare rather than completely omit it.

Yes. I expect it to perform poorly - if it mets Microsoft's expectations I will be surprised, and people's expectations on this board are way too high.

I think it will be this generation's 32x.

Yeah I guess I agree.

The big problem is that Kinect is a separate add-on. Plus it came a lil late in the gen obviously.

Just so. The quality of its software is subjective but immaterial in the face of the circumstances of its launch. Mark my words - Kinect is an experiment, an expensive one, that will test the waters for Microsoft's next console.

Yes I always saw it that way, that Natal is a big test for next gen cos they'll have 2 years or so and see if it works out or not. But it seems they're investing in it so much and pushing it so hard that it will be impossible to back away from this strategy. I already get the feeling that they've locked themselves to Kinnect as their "main thing" for next gen, not just to the end of this gen.

I didn't see most of it, but it doesn't sound like I missed much. No megatons to be found here. Will probably wind up being the worst of the three.

I could see Nintendo taking it this year with Zelda reveal, rumored Donkey Kong revival and the 3DS. I just hope they don't spend too much time talking about Wii Party. I have a feeling Sony will be lacking in megatons too.

Xenoblade and The Last Story!

Nintendo pretty much has it in the bag for me this year, with all their awesome new JRPG support.  Though I am super excited about LBP 2.

Complete thoughts

Black Ops graphics looked horrible especially compared to the video of Rising, Reach and Gears. 6/10

Rising looked fun but loses impact since it is multi-platform. 7/10

Reach looked good but the only thing that stood out was the Space Battles. 8/10

Gears 3 4 Player COOP awesome no split screen weak. The new brutes look great. 9/10

Kinectimals looked scripted hand locations completely different on video than where the girls hands were, also how did she know the cat would fall? Cute but very limited market. 5/10

Kinect Sports game play looked horrible and the running did not look enjoyable. 3/10

Adventure game simple but seemed fun could be a good party game. 6/10

Dance game looks very fun and the tutorial was a welcome feature. 10/10

Workout game calorie burn seemed over exaggerated and wanted to see my actual face none of natal games seemed to do that. Overall looks like a good experience. 8/10

ESPN looked cool but will it actually be a live feed or just old games. 7/10

Fable 3 looked interesting but no kinect info or game play hurts. 5/10

New Crytek game interesting but nothing special. 7/10

Slim built in wifi and 250 GB HD nice 299.99 Launch this week amazing. 9/10

Overall 7/10 Kinect worked but it was in a very well lit stage and no price. Only one new game announcement only saved by the launch of Slim this week.

GameStop says Kinect will be $149:

There will be Megatons, but they've all pretty much been leaked by now, except for Resistance 3, which will not be a shocker.

For Sony, I'm guessing: The Last Guardian gameplay trailer, LittleBigPlanet 2 live demo (using Move), Killzone 3 and GT5 being demoed live in 3D, inFamous 2 trailer, GT5 release date, Versus gameplay trailer, lots of Move games and maybe even PSP2.

If all goes as planned they'll definitely have a better conference than MS, but you never know.

Selling my 360.

It feels redundant to own one now that all the games to be released are sequels or Wii knockoffs.

Got it.  So, due to the second half of the show, Gears 3 and Halo Reach have disappeared off the face of the earth?  Oh yes, and Black Ops Fable 3 and Rising are no longer about either?

As I see it, Microsoft mentions they have all the top hardcore stuff in the first half.  In the second half, they do all Kinect stuff.

$149 and new console $299

- Fail.

If I were Mr Sony, i'd knock some dollars off the PS3 price just as Kinect launches.
