Forums - Nintendo - Two Nintendo Rumors(one for 3DS, another for...Wii Hi-Fi)

Since 2007, Nintendo has maintained a strategy where they are not releasing much information about products until they’re very close to release; and with the success they have had I wouldn’t expect them to change their strategy. The 3DS is a very good example of this because it is only a few months from being readily available on store shelves and no one knows anything about it.

It is likely that Nintendo is finalizing their next generation home consoles and some key third party publishers (EA, Activision Blizzard, Sega, etc.) have information about it to anticipate its release; and it is possible that Nintendo might release this system at the end of 2011. I personally see it as being amazingly unlikely that Nintendo would really talk about this system before E3 on the year they’re releasing it though; and with the 3DS coming out this year it certainly won’t be released before E3 next year.

This is generally true but not strictly true, especially not for new pieces of hardware (even if they are peripherals). I can't remember, but weren't Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort, and Mario Kart Wii announced a year or more before their respective releases?

Don't forget Smash Bros--dear god, that wait was agonizing :(

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I hope they release some technical info on the 3DS, at least telling us what chips etc are in the device! Alas we don't even have full details on the Wii!

Tease.

There have been instances of announcements that were (roughly) a year before the product was anticipated to be released, and products that were announced before Nintendo took this approach (Super Smash Bros.) but Nintendo has maintained this strategy as much as they could. Wii Fit was announced but no information about it was known, and we didn’t see the balance board until the E3 prior to its release; and Mario Kart was unannounced by Nintendo (although there were rumours) until Nintendo was demonstrating their holiday season games and showed off Mario Kart less than 6 months before its release.

The main reason why I wouldn’t anticipate any information about their next home console is they want everyone’s attention to be on the 3DS; and this (probably) won’t change in the next 12 to 18 months.

As well as vitality sensor

A 3d screen device with a 3d camera.  Makes sense.  I'm just not sure if the 2 technologies are cheap enough so that the 3ds will launch at a mass market price.

A 3d camera is cheap, it's just two cameras taking two separate pictures at the same time. It's the display technology that's expensive.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I don't think the rumor of a new Wii is true, the main reasons being, it may hurt the sales of Wii, and I doubt Nintendo wants to do that. Also, the new hardware focus at E3 will be the 3DS, and Nintendo probably wouldn't want to take the focus off of that. Thirdly, there is no need for a new Wii anytime soon. Motion plus is just getting going, Vitality Sensor has yet to be released, and sales are still going strong.

If anything, they might vaguely refer to a new console that they are working on, but that's it. And to be honest, I don't even think it's likely they do THAT. My guess is 2012 for the next console, at the earliest, and a reveal at next year's E3.

From GoNintendo:

Neither of the following images are real. The first is a sketch from a Chinese blogger that supposedly has a dev kit for the 3DS, and the second is a more realistic mock-up based on that sketch and info.

Hmmm... Hard to believe. But still, the circuit board looks like this sketches (the analog stick is there, at least), however, it could be a fake sketch based, indeed, on it. We just will have to wait for a bit less than 48 hours until we know for sure. Too bad the conference will start at same time as Brazil's match...

Who cares for World Cup when we have E3?!

The Legend of Zelda:

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity

The "3DS" is presumed to come in March 2011, so I wouldn't expect Nintendo to drop hints of their next console until E3 of that year. To be honest, I wouldn't expect a new console until holiday 2012 (Nintendo as a market leader usually lasts that long - 6 years).

If the Xbox'720' drops holiday 2011 (what is the point of Natal then?) Nintendo can wait one year to release their console. With the region of Japan, they don't have to worry about Microsoft's console sales. The Wii eclipsed the 360 in sales very early on in its release as well. No matter what happens, MS could release A Nextbox in March 2011 and Nintendo wouldn't have to worry, but it isn't plausible nor practical for that to occur.

I do not think Sony is financially ready. 2012 is actually the earliest I see them dropping the PS4. They may truly believe in the 10 year plan and wait until March of 2013 or something. I just really don't think they can afford the R&D in conjunction with console production for a LONG time, and the market must get to a point where the PS3 is just as profitable to make as the PS2.
