Forums - General Discussion - Why is'nt soccer more popular in America.

Eh, They miss the beiggest reason if you ask me.

Football IS the biggest sport in America.   Just a different version of it.

American Football, which derived from Rugby which was part of the Football family  is what Americans love.   Most people went from Football, To Assosiation Football.

Americal went from Football, to Rugby Football  to American Football.

Im not trolling this, happened just now, im at work listening to the radio and they started talking about Soccer, a guy calls and tells them that the FIFA world cup is a waste of time and that his son tried it and said it was the most stupidest sport ever.  And then goes on saying something like this is North America and how they dont give a dam about soccer etc.

I was shocked...course this was from my local radio station so i just want to find this guy, throw him in a pub when a soccer game is playing with the most hardcore soccer fans and tell the people there that this man hates soccer.

If anybody else heard this then that means you must live near me lol

*oh heard it again on the radio..the guy in his words said "nobody gives a flying f*** about soccer here in NA" ...man he does not speak for me.

For one thing the US is going to have trouble adopting a sport whos name they stole.

I think football is too fast paced for americans also, its 90 minutes of play interupted by only one break where as in handegg they are constantly stopping and starting, google says americans are fat so they are never going to play a game that doesn't give them breaks every other minute.

Really though look at a number of sports that are popular, Handegg, Ice Hockey, Wrestling.  Americans seem to like fake violence mixed with drama.  I mean you look at wrestling with its fake violence and drama trashtalking and you look at the others and its the same.  There is a reason padding is worn on these other sports and its be be violent with 'hard' tackles or fights breaking out but at the same time false, just like wrestling.  Fun fact:  If a wrestler were to ever use a handegg star gimmick the world would probably implode.

Thats an EXTREMELY ingorant statement.   Football...  (American) is part of the Football family of games, which includes Rugby and Assosiation Football.

Assosiation Football is the actual TRUE name of Soccer.  Hence why the Knickname Soccer was created for the game, by the English.

However, it didn't stick with most of the world... but did with the US.    Calling Soccer Football is like calling a Panda Bear just a Bear.   There are plenty of Bears.  In reality, the US is using the only term that makes actual sense.  Though just calling American Football, Football is the same mistake.

Furthermore... Football and Hockey are actually a lot more dangerous then Rugby regardless of the pads due to the number of times hit and the WAY hits are made.

nvm

Your fix makes no sense at all though.  Assosiation football wasn't derived from American football in the least.

If that's the rue name of Football, not soccer but football, then shouldn't the Yanks use the true name for Grid Iron?

A fact most Yanks overlook in that stupid statement.

Because Sony is one of the main sponsors of football. :p

May the adjustments be with you

I feel a disturbance in the sales

Nvermind. I thought you was talking about Yanks goinf from Grid Iron to Football recentlyas you was talking about America.

As you weren't what was your point. People went from football to... football? Being pedantic is one thing but you and everyone else knows football and association football is still football.

It's just difference of cultures. It's going to take decades before kids play soccer and grow up to strive to play professionally in the U.S. on a more mainstream basis. Everyone grows up (even though they might still play football) with all the other sports the U.S. being more successful, and with a lot more hype around it.

Football is going to have to reach that level, but only after a lot of years of grooming it to be on the level of what Americans think of pigskin/baseball/basketball

Trying to get into the world cup by watching the south africa vs. mexico and now the france match but watching just strengthens why americans hate this "sport".

1) The stupid horns. I have to watch with the mute button on or else my head will explode. They don't even blow them for any reason, i.e. when their team is on defense.
2) THE HORNS. Its like hearing a baby slowly skinned alive.

3) Both games are scoreless the whole first half!! What a waste of time.

4) The game ends in a tie! Its not a competitive sport if no one wins. Its basically wasting 2 hours of your life.

5) If the u.s. didn't have football, basketball, baseball, and our athletes grew up playing soccer, this wouldn't even be a contest.  Our athletes are just that much physically better.

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made
