Forums - Nintendo - No Castlevania Lords of Shadow for Wii/DS to avoid “family friendly Version

Facts to support these claims please?

Everywhere I look, it's the same story.  The one I linked up there.

And it's the story I remember they mentioned since shortly after the game's reveal.

The game was actually announced as simply "Lords of Shadow" at Konami's E3 2008 press conference, complete with a video.  And it was basically identical, the decision to go for the Castlevania branding came later, and the game got basically no press until that happened.

You're free to believe what you want (that the company lied for no reasonable reason, or whatever...), but the developers themselves state that Lords of Shadow was a Castlevania all along.

"So why was it originally announced just as Lords of Shadow, without the Castlevania name? According to Cox, for last year's Leipzig Games Convention where it was first shown, Konami management wanted to demonstrate that great game development was being conducted in Europe yet it didn't want to upstage its other big Castlevania game being shown at the time (Judgment). So the Lords of Shadow trailer was shown without the Castlevania moniker -- much to his frustration and disappointment. But Cox was surprised more people didn't recognize it as a Castlevania game anyway, especially since the character's suit was designed to look similar to Simon Belmont's. The Lords of Shadow logo that was used in the trailer, sans Castlevania? It was apparently created within days of the show."

I don't see any reason to doubt his words.  Especially since from day one, when the first footage of the game was shown to the press at Leipzig's 2008 Game Convention, the main character was already wielding a whip. ^_-

There is no Castlevania branding... other than a whip and crosses there isn't a LOT saying it's Castlevania, though that trailer tells me nothing but "Lords of Shadow" since really its shoddy CG, no gameplay, and only a title...

Though I'm not getting into all that, cause if they DID show gameplay I still wouldn't have thought it was Castlevania lol  Though why leave out Castlevania, why leave out Kojima's name, I don't see WHY they wouldn't put the Castlevania title on it, like it would draw hype away from a Castlevania fighter... or the multiple Castlevania games they announced at E3 that year...

*shrug* Don't really care either way

Or are you just doing the same thing you condemned in your recent thread?

To Jarrod and you, if I interpret your reasoning correctly: I will take the official statements from a developer I have absolutely no reason to mistrust over the skepticism of some random internet gamer "know it all".

The reason why just families or casual gamers buy a Wii is this! If you refuse to make quality hardcore games, and that is the case for many third parties, the percentage of casuals will increase not decrese! Nintendo makes games for everyone, but they usually appeal to "families" so it's third parties fault if they're not able to create and hardcore market on Wii...now is too late, but this is the reason why they sell poorly. This and piracy.

either if they made it casuals wont BUY EM, u know the demographic wii and DS mainly aim at and that holds most of their sales.

they dont need to create a hardcore market, they have PS3 360 and PC.

i fail to see why u people blame third party and NOT NINTENDO, if nintendo isnt making those kind of games there is never going to be market for it in it.

This notion is ridiculous. All it takes to create a market is for those games to be present during a demographic's formative stages, or for theree to be very serious support of it. Nintendo would have no more success at this than thirdp arties with the same level of effort.

In Nintendo would make those kind of games 3rd parties would just complain that they can't compete with Nintendo and that their games would sell less.

Nintendo has released some violent mainstream games on the wii.Disaster Day of Crisis some website said it sold 350k in others and japan and nintendo published Monster Hunter Tri and Samurai Warriors 3 which are considered quite violent. They also might bring over Zangeki no Regliniev a game with bucket loads of blood(its selling extremely well in japan compared to other games 70k.Nintendo could do more but they have been making us really happy with what they already realeased and theres still a lot coming.

This game actually looks pretty interesting to me. I probably will pick it up but not for full price.
