Castlevania producer: No Lords of Shadow for Wii/DS to avoid “family friendly version”

The Castlevania series has been well represented on Nintendo systems, especially in recent years. Three titles in the franchise have been released on the DS while the Wii has been treated to an original fighter as well as a number of classic games made through the Wii Shop Channel. The latest Castlevania title, Lords of Shadow, was announced two years ago, but there was never even a peep that it would ever come to the Wii or DS.

So, why was did the developers decided against creating a different version for either Nintendo system? According to Lords of Shadow producer Dave Cox, the team “didn’t want to do a family friendly version.”

“…The reason we didn’t do Wii or DS, or anything else like that, is because we wanted to bring it into the mainstream. And in many ways mainstream gaming is Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We didn’t want to do a family friendly version. This is a pretty dark game and just wouldn’t work on the Nintendo systems.”

Really harsh, more devs afraid to try on Wii. If they never try to sell such games how will they know theres a market for them.

EDIT: LOL WAIT, The Wii isn't mainstream? Wow.....I guess the sales of NSMB Wii, SMG, Wii-Sports/etc, Zelda, etc don't matter to them.

Developers are not afraid of the will as you pointed out, they just have access to data.  And the conclusion they get is that a game of this calibur will not sell (or sell well) on the Wii.  The DS Castlevania games has been declining in sales with each new release, Konami is just looking for a new dart board to throw at.

The reason why just families or casual gamers buy a Wii is this! If you refuse to make quality hardcore games, and that is the case for many third parties, the percentage of casuals will increase not decrese! Nintendo makes games for everyone, but they usually appeal to "families" so it's third parties fault if they're not able to create and hardcore market on Wii...now is too late, but this is the reason why they sell poorly. This and piracy.

Not every Wii game needs to be family friendly.

I wish Wii third party companies cannot make more money on Wii, I'm tired of them.

That is not mainstream. This is just more of the delusion these people have. Furthermore, where did they get the impression they couldn't do one? Some no name games not selling well? Yeah, the bullshit about a slow rail shooter, and a black and white game in a dead genre, not selling well means they stupidly think Wii owners don't like M rated games.

Wii sales: 71 million.

PS3 sales: 35 million

Xbox 360 sales: 40 million

anywho I understand what they are trying to say but that's just a poor choice of words..anywho hope they showcase a playable demo of the game at E3 to see if it's worth it

well who cares, Order of Ecclesia is one of the best castlevania and fans dont care about 3d castlevania,plus this game looks nothin like a castlevania game

the game still looks good tho, but I will never treat it like castlevania game
