DS is like 8 million or dunno how much from outselling ps2, and apparently it's rumoured that Nintendo is clearing stock with those eu & jp price cuts, so let's assume 3ds is closer than it seems......

will nintendo disscontinue the ds, and so it wouldn't outsell the ps2, making a huge tragedy?

Comparing the sales of the PS2 and the DS is like comparing the two fruits I have in my lunch today -- an apple and an orange.

While they both grow on trees (play games), and have many different types (models of machines). But one gives you vitamin C (oranges -- consoles) while the other gives you antioxidants (apples -- handhelds).

Nintendo will discontinue the DS just like they discontinued the GBA.

I do not think they really care if they have the #1 selling console of all time.

All companies eventually discontinue all systems.

But my guess is that Nintendo will continue to support the DS/DSi format for a couple of years into the 3DS.  It supported GB and GBC, GBC and GBA, GBA and DS.  There has heretofore been a couple of year overlap.

I would disagree. The both are meant to play videogame, so consumers will always buy them for key software titles. So I would say their sales are compairable since they have to have software to sell, and the software has to complement their own individual characteristics.

I'm not sure Nintendo would be ready to clear out all DS stock. The DS, like the PS2, can easily sell while the 3DS is out. The only X factor may be they fear the DS will hurt 3DS sales (much like how people were buying PS2s instead of PS3s).

Nintendo will keep shipping DS handhelds for at least 18 months after the "3DS" hits retail.

Are you sure comparing DS and PS2 is very logical?

They both play games yes, but one is a handheld, and one is an actual console.

This holiday it will outsell,it/

They will still support the DS when the 3DS comes out. 

The GBA still sold a couple millions after the DS came out.
