Wii Bingo anyone?

Its been 1 year - and the Wii is *already* 10m units ahead. Next year, the Wii will extend this lead more than it has this year (more 3rd-party support, less production issues, more production).

By end of '08 the Wii will be 22-25m ahead of the PS3.

You work it out.

Game cube has outsold PS2 some weeks in Japan, hasn't it?
Everyone nows that means nothing.
Wii has managed to increase the edge of sales against PS3 during the year.
The two weeks de PS3 has outsold de Wii in Japan, the next week Wii could vanish that difference.
No one sane would have predicted that 2-3 years ago.

What you fail to see is that the Wii can produce games that are similar to the games being produce for the XBox 360 and PS3 ... (see Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, The Godfather, etc.)

Certainly people do choose between a Nissan Micra and a BMW 7 series ... people who can afford a BMW 7 series often choose to buy a Micra which effectively prevents them from buying a BMW 7 series.

of course the wii's got a couple games like resident evil and metroid
but that doesn't change the focus of the system

i can picture a guy standing in the shop and thinking about buying a ps3 or a 360
but i can't picture him thinking 'or should i buy a ps3 and play haze, killzone, metal gear or should i buy a wii and play wiiplay, mario, wiifit, metroid and mario & sonic'

i could picture one or two kids thinking like that, but we all know what the focus of nintendo is

the wii,ps3 and 360 are all video game consoles, and therefore they are competing directly, it is the same with every console ever, even the neo geo was originally postured to compete with the genesis and snes.
No matter what at the end of the day a wii alone is still cheaper than a wii and a second system, and no matter what it plays video games.

in the past it was the case yes, but with the new direction nintendo has taken with the wii you cannot talk about DIRECT competition
just because in the past everyone competed directly with each other in this sector of entertainment, doesn't mean this will always remain that way

That is why for 14 months people (like you) have predicted the failure of the Wii as being just around the corner while it has continued to perform amazingly well.

The percentage of gamers in the market who 'give a rats ass' about games like haze, killzone or metal gear is amazingly small ... at best games like this sell to 5% of the potential gamer market. 90% of gamers do not care about games you hype and drool over every day ...

in think in the a little further away future you will see more different directions of video game entertainment, all sorts of it competing indirectly with each other, while others competing directly
